Volleyball League Rules
Fall 2016
All players must sign a release and waiver prior to league or tournament play. Each team captain is responsible for turning the
waivers in. All players must be at least 21 years of age to participate. Players should always have identification available in case
of protest. If a team is found to have an illegal player they will forfeit all games in which the player participated.
Each team must have a roster submitted by the first scheduled night of play. You can have up to 8 people on your roster for all
4 on 4 teams. No substitutions will be allowed if player is not on the roster. Changes can be made to the roster up to 3 weeks
into play. No person may be on 2 rosters at the same time in the same league night.
There must be 1 woman on the court at all times. If the ball is hit more than once in your court, then a woman must hit the ball
before the ball traverses the play net.
A match will consist of three games up to 15 points. If the third game begins later than forty-five minutes from the actual start
time of the match, rally score must be used. (During rally score, a point results in every serve, regardless of who serves.)
Starting times will be announced, then every hour after 1 st game starts, another game will start; based on the number of teams.
There is a minimum of 4 players needed to start a game. Games will be forfeited if there are not enough people after 15 minutes
from the scheduled starting time.
Game balls will be provided. Teams should provide their own balls for warm up.
No player should enter the court area until the court is available for warm up. You will be allowed 5 minutes for warm up. There
are no children allowed on court at any time – including warm ups !
The Referee/Line judge’s decisions are final.
You may serve anywhere along the end line of the court.
The ball may only hit the net on your side of the court and must be re-hit before going to the other court. Hitting the new on a
serve is a loss of service.
Players may partially or completely cross the center line below the net or outside the poles, before, during or after a legal play
of the ball, provided this does not interfere with the opponent’s play. Incidental contact with an opponent during the
continuation of a play, it is a fault, regardless of the opponent’s ability to play the ball.
The ball may contact any part of the body as long as the ball does not come to rest.
Captains should sign the referee’s score sheet each night.
Rain outs will be called at game time.
