£34.40 hour inclusive of pro rata holiday entitlement and
preparation time.

2 hours per fortnight – weekday afternoon/evening

Main purpose of the job
Lead Counsellor
To provide fortnightly group supervision to volunteer counsellors (maximum of four)
on placement at the City Lit Counselling Service (CLCS), ensuring ethical practice
and adherence to BACP and CLCS policies and procedures.

Main activities and responsibilities
3.1
Offer fortnightly group clinical supervision to volunteer placement counsellors on a
weekday evening.
Ensure volunteer counsellors work ethically, with professional integrity, and within
BACP and CLCS guidelines.
Collect receipts and fees from volunteer counsellors.
Keep Lead Counsellor informed of any issues affecting volunteer counsellors’
competence, professionalism and fitness to practise.
Signpost volunteer counsellors to sources of support, if necessary, to help process
personal material emerging from client work.
Keep Lead Counsellor informed of clients who prove especially challenging or
unsuitable for counselling.
Agree, in conjunction with Lead Counsellor, when a client’s counselling agreement
can be extended
Conduct annual review of volunteer counsellors’ work, with recommendations
regarding the continuation of the counsellors’ contract with the City Lit.
Attend occasional CLCS meetings.

Carry out quality assurance procedures as appropriate.
Keep up to date with subject knowledge and attend relevant training / development
events and meetings as required/appropriate.
Any other duties as appropriate to the post.

and customer care.

Your application should show evidence that
demonstrates that you:
 Have a diploma in clinical supervision with a
humanistic and/or integrative orientation.
 Accreditation with BACP/UKCP or equivalent.
 A minimum of 1000 hours’ post-qualification as a
counsellor/psychotherapist.
 Extensive knowledge of therapeutic theories, practice
and interventions.
 Knowledge of mental health issues and their
presentation.
 Experience of working with volunteers and/or
placement counsellors.
 Experience of supervising counsellors with multiple
theoretical orientations.
 Experience or knowledge of adult education.
 Can raise the profile of the service at City Lit
 Have an understanding of and experience of promoting
equality and diversity
 Understand and have experience of promoting
safeguarding, health and safety as appropriate to the
role
 Have an understanding of and experience of promoting
excellent customer care.
 Can support students to overcome barriers to learning.
 Can support the process of quality improvement and
