Villaroman wins ABTA Memorial Special $8,900 at CAL Bowl

Popular CAL BOWL was our host this year for our Annual Memorial Event and they did a great job there the staff there
is friendly and accommodating to all, and helped make our event a success. Thanks to Sal and crew, the shot was
consistent semi-tough but very fair to all every day If You hit your mark you can score,
479 entries cam to compete and had fun in the process.. The cut scores were Daily separate boards, Thurs Friday and
Saturday, and Sunday the Regular Cut score was Men +53 and +31 and +69 for the re-entry for the men,and+20
Women The Super Seniors added to the board (3 men, Vic Paolucci +78, Mike Bousquet +69, and Mamerto Jablan +63
Two Women, Teresita Abing +66, and Bobbie McCollum +53. Super seniors are men 63 and over, and for the women a
young 55. That would give us 92 bowlers making it to the semi-finals.
High qualifiers for the tournament were Beth Borci +193 Women and Benjamin Chung (men) +193 They get a paid
entry in a future regular ABTA event. Beth, would draw for the Match Series, Pot worth a cool $4, 340. He drew a 672.
We had no bowlers who match that score so the MatchSeries goes for 5,000 this Saturday at Irvine Lanes In the 3-6-9
roll off worth $3,000. we had four cashers and Tres Catalasan, Ted Villaroman, William Ele and John Armenia split the
$100 Consolation of $100 and again we go for $3,000 3K Saturday at Irvine Lanes
In our optional doubles, finishing in first were Beth Borci, and Freddy Zamora 1466 and $150 2nd Beth again and Vuong
Do 1443, $150 There was a total of $1,780 and 28 paid spots with low to cash of 1353.
The semifinalists took to the lanes, and after the three games the leader was Teddy Villaroman +132 edging Don Chung
+123 in second, so Chung will sit out the first round of the single elims and Teddy to sit out and bowl for the title. Mr
Villaroman, had the honor of drawing the match game worth $4,340 and he drew a 122 Game 3 making Cyndi Kelley,
Bonnie Roberto, and Mike Moore quite happy as they split the pot and get $1,466 each we estimate the pot at $1,200
Saturday.
Now to the top 32 Match Play finals. In the first round, the fifteen losers were awarded checks of $222.50. In round,
two eight losers were Angel Hilvano, Andy Toro, Tomas Chavez, Nick Lee, and Mike Moore Jeanette Chang, Go Go
Brown, and Florinda Rosario. Each getting checks of $245. In Round three, the four losers were Marvin Galsim Sr. Don
Chung, Armand Garcia, and Bernie Navarro with each getting checks of $330.
We are now down to the final five bowlers. In these matches Freddie Catamisan fell to Steve Brode in a tightone 231115 , and Tom Mazzulla got to Andy Yu 235-211 so Andy and Freddie are 4thand 5th and $625 Each with Brode and
Mazzulla to bowl for the right to meet Villaroman for the Title. This match was a good one also
Our semi-final match would pit two men who bowl most every week with us. In a tense game Tom Had a few
problems and Brode won on tough lanes 199-173 and Tom was 3rd with a great showing and Brode, last week’s champ at
Friendly Hills is off to the title a game. Brode had a chance to be a Back to Back Champion which few have mastered in
ABTA History. Brode was the Horse winner paying $69 to the faithful who placed their $5 on him
The title game was on at CAL Bowl. Top Qualifier Ted Villaroman elected to start the match on left lane and he struck.
Brode also started out with a strike, and spare to open up the match. Ted Struck and spared, and they booth clean til
frame 5 where Teddy opened 5-10 split, and again opened in frame 6 At this point Brode had a 16 pin lead., and was
clean through 8 frames, But Ted Doubled in the 7-8 frames, and they both opened in the 9th frame, and here we are 10th
frame Brode up by 7 pins. Brode left a strong 4 pin and for the spare he missed to the right giving him 9 out and
opening the door for Ted who no needed a mark. He struck and now needed only 7 pins and he left a 10 pin to win via
208-204 count (all scores posted are w Handicap) ted takes home $5,000 for the victory and an additional $2,875 for
cash and carry, $150 for bowling in the last three events, $750 for bowling in 33+ squads in the last year, and an additional
$275 for wearing his ABTA Shirt to give him a total of $8,900. Steve would take home $2,500 for his second place finish
in this exciting title match.

Tom Mazzula 3rd Place, is from Highland and used a 900-Global Network Drilled by Vance Sisk. He’s married to Kathy
with kids Matt, and Ashlyn. He thanks CAL for hosting the ABTA tournament, the ABTA and its staff.
In our raffle this week, we saw Champ Villaroman win the sponsor ball from 900 Global. In our other raffles Joyce
-Charles and Angel Hilvano won paid entries into our Vegas event. Will Samson, Henry Hoang, and William Ele won
entries into a future regular event. Rich Abrantes won a 900-Global Bag!
