Administrative Assistant Ms. Debbie Foster BAB 307286-5360 Mrs. Josephine Okoronkwo, Director The Student Development Center (SDC) is a student-centered department where the winning team of dedicated staff members is ‘on the rise’ with SUNO. SDC provides personalized ‘hi-touch’ service to every student who visits our office either by appointment or as a walk–in. Student Development Center sets records in regards to the number of campus events, student services, the diversity of the students we serve and the high number of student engagement in our events. Each student is the business of SDC. We facilitate growth, wellness and development of the entire individual as he/she takes full advantage of his/her college experience. We value you, the student, through our student-centered services, our partnership on student learning, our collaboration on student diversity and our emphasis on student strength. ALCOHOL, TOBACCO OTHER DRUGS SERVICES (ATOD) Provides confidential one-on-one counseling sessions to students whose academic status is jeopardized by his/her/peer’s misuse of alcohol or drugs. AOD information and educational materials, support and focus groups, screenings, assessments, classroom/ workshop presentations, psychological and physical health related referrals also provided. COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING (CSL) Community Service Learning is community service work directly aligned with the students career path and performed within a non-profit organization. The CSL director works to assist students with placement in a non-profit organization for completion of the 60 hours that is required for each student prior to graduation. Service Learning assists students with enhancing their civic responsibility and it makes our communities stronger. COUNSELING AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES (CAPS) Students have responsibilities and concerns outside of class. When the stressors of life get in the way of academic focus, counselors and a psychologist are available to provide confidential help for personal problems. Counseling is offered to individuals, couples, roommates and groups. Counselors also make academic performance enhancing presentations to classes and offer consultative services to departments, Greek and other organizations as well as to residents of a Knight’s Place. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SERVICES (ISS) International Student Services is a regulatory compliance component that focuses on the University’s international community from approximately fifteen countries. The community includes foreign nationals schooled in their home country or in the United States; USA citizens who have lived, studied or traveled abroad; and all F-1 degree-seeking students and their dependents. ISS, through its various pro-grams, creates forums and increases awareness for global oneness and cultural sensitivity. ISS issues Student and Ex -change Visitor Information System (SEVIS) approved Form I-20. and ensures that F1 students maintain compliance with the rules and regulations of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of the U.S. Homeland Security. All F-1 students are required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement of U.S. Homeland Securityto enroll fulltime each semester, a minimum of twelve (12) hours for undergraduOnline Classes/Full Course of Study-: 8C.F.R. S214.2 (f)(6)(i)(G). . For F-1 students enrolled in classes for credit or classroom hours, no more than the equivalent of one class or three credits per semester may be counted toward the full course of study requirement if the class is taken on-line or through distance education and does not require the student’s physical attendance for classes, examination or other purposes integral to completion of the class. Services offered include: Culturally competent counseling Adjustment counseling Advocacy Diversity/Cultural Programs. SPECIAL PROGRAMMING (SP) The Special Programming consists of bridging the gap projects which cover workshop series, classroom presentations, and consultations to campus student organizations, departments, faculty and staff. Additionally, SP oversees the planning and implementation of special events such as: International Culture Fest, Volunteer Fair and SUNO’s Annual Family Wellness Fair. SP offers a Stress-Free Zone which provides an in-door serenity room with relaxation chairs. Finally, ‘De-stress for Finals’ a year round program, provides scrantrons, pens, pencils, bluebooks and occasionally provides goodies during final examination periods. Online Individual Counseling Appointment is available via http://www.suno.edu/ counseling . CAPS uses Google Hangout- a free and easy access tool for online sessions.
