OPTIONS TO CONSIDER




Turn your ‘raffle-type basket’ draw item(s) into a PECSF PLEDGE-BASED or
PARTICIPATION INCENTIVE DRAW(s) or hold a PECSF AWARENESS EVENT to
promote/showcase the benefits of donating. “Everyone loves the chance to win
something! & it doesn’t have to be fancy or costly”. Use your imagination, get creative,
or chat with your executive to gain ideas!
Keep in mind…while gaming events can be fun, the amount raised for the charities is
extremely small compared to your valuable time & efforts.
Remember: Almost 95% of all monies raised come from payroll deductions!
Holding a less time-consuming CONTEST, or INCENTIVE DRAW, with a selection of
various prizes is a super-easy alternative & a really fun way to encourage participation
with all workplace colleagues, no matter where they live & work. 
USE CAUTION IN YOUR ADVERTISING!
There is a fine line between incentives &
gaming. Ask yourself the following:
 Is there an element of chance?
 Is there a cost to participate?
 Is there a prize of material value?
If you can answer YES TO ALL THREE!
You have a gaming event! BETTER CALL PECSF!
WE RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING USE OF LANGUAGE TO ENSURE
A DRAW IS NOT CONSIDERED A GAMING EVENT
 A pledge to PECSF automatically enters
the person into the draw
 The pledge can be in any form available:
 Online bi-weekly payroll deduction,
online one time payroll deduction, paper
pledge form with donation OR
 EMPLOYEES CAN ‘WRITE-IN’ TO
REQUEST TO BE INCLUDED IN THE
DRAW WITHOUT A PECSF PLEDGE OR
DONATION
 TO ENTER WITHOUT A PLEDGE: PLEASE

May 19, 2015 - Gaming Funds Used for Disaster Relief in
Nepal Organizations wishing to participate in fundraising for
earthquake victims in Nepal may conduct licensed gaming events to
assist with relief efforts. Funds raised from these events must be
donated to the Canadian Red Cross Society - B.C. and Yukon.
In January 2005, the government made amendments to gaming
policies, allowing in certain circumstances the use of net proceeds
from licensed gaming events to assist with relief efforts for disasters
and emergencies that have occurred outside of British Columbia.
Organizations wishing to participate in such fundraising efforts must
meet the specified criteria and obtain a licence from the Gaming
Policy and Enforcement Branch.
