of the Year 1 - Worn by Cedrick Barrow, who 14 - Chet Davis (1970-73) played had an outstanding collegiate career (2000-04). During his senior season he was one of the top assist artists in the MEAC by averaging 2.8 assists per game...he was also the Bears second leading scorer averaging 10.8 points per game. 11- Worn by Alvin O’Neal, who Cedrick Barrow had an outstanding collegiate career as he helped Morgan State finish with a 28-5 record during the 1973-04 season in which they finished as the NCAA National College Champions under head coach Nathaniel Frazier. 12 - Worn by Billy Newton (1973- Billy Newton 76), Jason McCoy (1987-91), and Terrence Wright (1992-96). Newton still holds the school record for most games played (112) and holds the career free throw percentage mark (78%). McCoy finished his career as the top three-point shooter for the Bears as he shot 37% from beyond the arc for his career...McCoy also holds the career assist record with 442 assists. Wright was another outstanding player for the Bears and finished his career with a school-best 186 steals, and during the 1994-95 season he led the Bears by averaging 4.4 rebounds per contest. under head coach Nathaniel Frazier and finished his collegiate career with a 48-28 overall record and ranks No. 6 on the school’s all-time scoring list by collecting 1,501 points. He was the Bears leading scorer during the 1971-72 season as he recorded 411 points and averaged 15.8 points per game. 23 - Worn by Scott Deas (1994- 97), Randy Dukes (1994-97) and Barry Scroggins (1975-76)... Deas played under head coach Chris Fuller and joined the school’s single-game scoring leaders when he put up 31 points on Jan. 15, 1996. Dukes played under head coach Alfred ‘Butch’ Beard and recorded a career-high 27 points against Florida A&M during the MEAC Tournament (3/4/02). Scroggins played under head coach Nathaniel Frazier and helped lead the Bears to a 22-6 record. 30 - Worn by Chris Watson (1995-97), who was an outstanding rebounder, led the Bears on the glass by averaging a team-high 4.4 rebounds per game during the 199495 season, and averaged 5.7 boards during 1996-97. 13 - Phillip Pugh played under 31 head coach Howard ‘Brutus’ Wilson from 1969-72...Pugh was a glasscleaner for the Bears and grabbed a n impressive 414 rebounds (21.5 rpg) during the 1970-71 season. Chet Davis 104 • “We Grind - Worn by Ivan Young (1975-77) played under head coach Nathaniel Frazier. He helped lead Morgan State to a 40-16 record in two seasons...The Bears captured the MEAC Championship during the 1976-77 season. • 2009-10 Morgan State Bears Basketball • They Wore These Numbers 2008-09 MEAC Champs ● 2009 MEAC Tournament Champs ● Mid-Major Coach of the Year 33 - Worn by Yarharbrough Roberts (1979-83), who was an outstanding scorer, finished his Morgan State career as the school’s third leading scorer. He rackedup 1,820 points in 98 games and averaged 18.6 points per contest. During the 1980-81 season he led the Bears by averaging 22.8 points per game and scored a career-high 37 points...twice. 40 - Worn by Marvin “The Human Eraser” Webster (1972-75) and Eric “The Pencil” Evans (197478). Webster was the “Shaq” of the league as he led the Bears to a NCAA National College Championship and a 67-23 overall record during his collegiate career. Webster was an enforcer in the paint and still holds the school record in a number of categories: Blocks (722), Rebounds (2,267), Free Throws Made (424), Most Points Scored (1,990) and Most Games Started (110). Evans was also a standout for the Morgan State basketball program during the mid-70s. Evans is the school’s second leading scorer, behind Webster, and notched 1,949 points in 103 games during his Bear career. Evans was the scoring and rebounding leader for the Bears from 1975-1978. He is the school’s second single game scoring leader as he recorded a career-high 46 points on Dec. 2009-10 Morgan State Bears Basketball • 10, 1976 against Md-Eastern Shore. 41 - 42 - Worn by Pernell McNeil, who played forward for the 1972-75 teams. Worn by Jethro Crum (1973-75) and Michael Streety (1972-75). Crum and Streety were members of the 1973-74 NCAA National College Championship squad coached by Nathaniel Frazier. Crum played alongside Marvin Webster and Billy Newton. 45 - Worn by Garcia Hopkins (1975) and Maurice Jennings (1975-79). Hopkins was an outstanding scorer for Morgan State and led the Bears during the 197879 season by averaging 21.4 points per game. Garcia joined the school’s single game scoring leaders when he dropped in 30 points on Dec. 14, 1977. Jennings played alongside Morgan standouts Ivan Young and Eric Evans and was coached by Nathaniel Frazier (1975-78) and Aaron Johnson (1978-79). Marvin “The Human Eraser” Webster 105
