Operating Reality
•
70% of US GDP is based on consumer spending. Consequently, the sustainable recovery of
the domestic economy must be “jobs based”.
•
Small business has long been recognized as the engine of job creation in the national and
regional economies. Businesses owned by People of Color and women (MWBEs) have
consistently been the fastest growing segment of these economies.
•
The meaningful and sustainable inclusion of MWBEs firms in the supply chains of Public,
Private and Non Profit sector buying entities requires a combination of policies, processes
and behavior.
•
Successful and sustainable implementation requires both the political will and political
capital by leadership and key process owners throughout the buying entities; and a “ready
now” pool of forward looking MWDBEs.
•
There is a major disconnect between the importance of MWBEs to sustainable economic
recovery and Public Policy at the federal, state and municipal levels that “encourages,
enables and empowers” MWBEs.
