“The Most Dangerous Game” Essay Assignment
Instructions: You are to choose one of the topics listed and write a well-organized five paragraph,
analytical essay.
1. Explain how Rainsford is a dynamic character. Use specific statements and or actions to show
that he changes throughout the story.
2. Do you believe the author of "The Most Dangerous Game" intended the story partly as criticism
of hunting or cruelty to animals?
3. Explain how author, Richard Connell uses foreshadowing in the story to add interest and
suspense. Use specific examples from the story to prove your point.
4. Explain how Connell uses figurative language (similes, metaphors, personification, imagery,
foreshadowing, etc.) to add richness, and create the tone of the story.
5. OR a topic of your choice (with consultation from Ms. Gledhill).
