How do I access my Profile and personal Settings?
Learn where to find your profile and personal settings.
Navigating to your Profile
Go to the upper right corner of your home Canvas page and you will see your global settings with your
Name, Inbox, Settings, Logout, and Help button.
After you have explored the interface, click the Settings link in the Help corner of any page inside
Canvas. This will take you to your personal settings and profile where you can add additional contact
information, set notification preferences, and other settings.
How do I set my Notification Preferences?
You can set each notification to your preference and it will apply to all of your courses.
To Open Personal Settings:
1. Click the Settings link in the help corner.
2. View Settings
3. Click edit settings
4. Locate Time Zone
5. Select Central Time (US or Canada) from the drop down menu.
Next, you will be able to edit other personal settings.

*On the right side of the page you will see your preferred email address (student email account) and
Other contact methods. (Email & SMS Text)
Add Ways to Contact
Before you can set your Notification Preferences, you will
need to set the ways you want to be notified.
1.
Click the Add Email Address link to add additional
emails to be contacted.
Note: Your official college email will automatically be
listed and will be the preferred email. Students can add
additional accounts, but cannot remove the official
email.
2. Click the Add Contact Method link to add a phone
number for test messages or a register SMS contact.

How do I connect to web services outside of Canvas?
Canvas is integrated with a number of third party web services. Most of these services can be configured
from the user settings page.
By registering other web services with Canvas, you create different ways to be contacted. By default we
do not disclose this information to other users within the system unless you give us your consent.
Integrated web services include:
1. Google Docs
2. Ether pad (Typewith.me)
3. Facebook
4. Twitter
5. Scribd
6. Skype
7. LinkedIn
8. Delicious
9. Diigo

Notification Preferences
Now that you have added ways to contact and linked to other
services, it is time to set your Notification Preferences.
To Open Notifications:
Click the Notifications link on the left hand side of the screen.
View Notification Preferences
You will need to go through and set how you want to be notified for
each type of alert. The notifications are divided up into six
categories:
1. Course Activities
2. Discussions
3. Communications
4. Scheduling
5. Groups
6. Alerts

View Weekly Notification Time
Below is an example of what the weekly notifications note will look like at the bottom of the page. It will
give you a day and time when they will be sent. This varies between users.
Set Notification Preferences
When you hover over a cell, four icons appear.
1. By selecting the Checkmark icon, you will be immediately notified of any change for the
activity.
2. By selecting the Clock icon, you will be notified daily of any change for the activity.
3. By selecting the Calendar icon, you will be notified weekly of any change for the activity.
4. By selecting the X icon, you will remove the notification preference and will not be notified
of any change for the activity.

The default notification settings are:
 Due dates: Emailed weekly
 Grading policy changes: Emailed weekly
 Course Content: Emailed never
 Files: Emailed never
 Announcements: Emailed right away
 Grading alerts: Emailed right away
 New invitations: Emailed right away
 All submissions: Emailed never
 Late grading: Emailed daily
 Comments on assignment submissions: Emailed daily
 New Discussion Topics: Emailed never
 Discussion Topics I've commented on: Emailed daily
 Added to Conversation: Emailed right away
 Conversation messages: Emailed right away
 Student appointment signups: Emailed never
 Student appointment cancellations: Emailed never
 Changes to appointment time slots: Emailed right away
 Canceled appointments: Emailed right away
 New Appointments: Emailed right away
 Calendar changes: Emailed never
 Group membership updates: Emailed daily
 Alerts: Emailed daily
 Administrative alerts: Emailed daily
Note: There are two new notification options.
1. The Files notification will notify users of new files in a course, but will wait until all the files are done
updating before sending a notification.
2. Users can also click the Mark new submission comments as read checkbox to mark all submission
comment as read in their Inbox.
