1. excerpt of “Winner Culture” 1/2 What is ”Winner Culture”? W inner culture is a constructive combination of the concepts “winning” and “culture”. The winner culture is what all organizations should strive to achieve, Why? Because it creates success, again and again. But let’s begin by breaking the question down into its two elements; “winning” and “culture”. What is “winning”? In the relatively simple world of sport, winning usually means being the first to cross the line, scoring the most goals, jumping higher or lifting more than your fellowcompetitors. In the world of business things are rather more complex. “Winning” is not quite as straightforward or clear-cut as it is in the sporting world. It cannot be measured in the same way. The bottom line or the cash flow in a company will, as a rule, be the parameters for success, although many other factors also play a role. At times other priorities will determine the success of an individual company. Direct comparisons can rarely be made between an international, listed company and a small, local enterprise. The market situation, the world economy, political decisions and many other factors over which a company has no direct influence all play a role in the success of all companies, large and small, but there is a huge difference in the consequences. The definition of winning and success varies from company to company and from team to team. To my mind, to win is to utilize the full potential of any team and to feel that your own potential has been utilized 110 per cent. This is where boundaries are expanded and results achieved. What is culture? The word culture comes from the Latin word “cultura” and means “cultivated”, as opposed to the word “nature” which means “innate”. In other words, culture is something we learn and not something we are born with. However, “culture” is often used in relation to a number of different concepts and can have many meanings. In this book, the word “culture” is used specifically to define the culture which is deemed to be desirable in an individual company. Those companies which, again and again, do extraordinarily well often have a consciously acquired culture which describes what should be done and, not least how and why things are done, as well as when things are done in a certain way. Since company culture is acquired and can be learnt, it can be adapted and shaped as required. And it is here, if you are willing to take responsibility, that you can also have influence. I am convinced that it is possible to learn a winner culture and, thus, learn how to be successful. Success can become a habit. How that can be done is explained within the pages of this book. My experience with winner culture I have worked with winners at all levels and in all branches of the business community for more than 20 years. Again and again, through my work in facilitating team processes, developing and implementing strategies and anchoring winner cultures, I have experienced how companies can turn success into a habit and continue to deliver peak performances. And I intend to share and explain these experiences with you as you read. A winner culture can be created and anchored in any organisation. Delivering extraordinary performances can be made into a routine. Simply put - you can learn to become successful! Prior to my many years as a coach and facilitator, I spent 10-15 years as an athlete, Olympic rower and national trainer. A career which culminated in a bronze medal at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. © OlymPeak Coaching ApS 1. excerpt of “Winner Culture” 1/2 In this book, you will be introduced to such varied organizations as ATP, Danfoss, Jyske Bank and PANDORA, all of whom I have had the pleasure of working in close cooperation with.
