The role
The role of the General Manager: Supply Chain is to Lead, align and manage the Kumba Supply Chain function and
unlock sustainable supply chain value aligned with the requirements to retain the license to operate.








Provide strategic direction;
Represent KUMBA at industry level;
Supplier relationship management;
Compliance and governance;
Achieve mining charter targets;
Reduce costs;
Head of Supply Chain Forum;
Asset optimisation

Authorities:
 Managerial, service, monitoring and auditing authority.
Strategy Development:
 Participate in the development of Global Category Strategies. Ensuring that Category strategies align
with Business unit strategies.
 Develop Supply Chain strategies in support of Category Management, Capital Procurement, Physical
supply chain, Vendor Management and Business Process and Intelligence to achieve of business
objectives
 Ensure SC strategies are aligned with EE requirements and Anglo’s business objectives to comply with
legislation and minimize potential risk
 Manage financial viability and health of the Kumba supply chain function
SC Management:
 Manage SC functions and activities to ensure balance is maintained
 Set and manage SC target to pursue critical success factors
 Accept custodianship of SC processes and systems to optimize value added services and
organisational support
 Monitor order fulfillment and ensure Service Level Agreement are in place to enhance stakeholder
relationships and interfacing
Stakeholder Relationship Management:
 Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to meet delivery outcomes
 Manages and oversees Supplier Relationship Management activities for teams as well as supporting
regional and global teams in managing cross Business Unit suppliers
 Create capacity for localized procurement and total BEE requirements in line with the mining Charter
 Participate in external platforms ( national and international) to influence the technical environment
Compliance and Governance:
 Applies and maintains the risk management framework for the Business Unit Supply
 Audit SC systems and processes and make recommendations for improvement for optimized services
rendered
 Create assurance to EXCO and the Boards that supply chain principles and practices are adhered to
for governance purposes
People Management:
 Optimize human resources in a way that maximum output is delivered by the section as a whole
 Ensure work ethics is of such a nature that workers continuously strive towards improving their
performance
Safety and Health Work Environment:
 Manage a safe and healthy work environment where workers and contractors can deliver their outputs
within a controlled risk environment
 Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance








Requirements






Bachelor degree level, preferably in business and/or engineering disciplines. Degree in business administration, commerce, or
other relevant discipline (MBA, MCIPs, etc)
Preferred: Membership of relevant professional body
Valid driver’s license
10 years appropriate experience of which 7 years should be at management level
Strong management experience in Supply Chain, of which some should be in Inventory Management and Capital Procurement
Solid experience managing requisite commercial and regulatory processes to ensure operational effectiveness

Remuneration


The initial salary will be determined in accordance with Kumba Iron Ore Ltd. regulations
This position is an Anglo Band
