KS1 Dodgeball Rules Teams 10 players per team- 8 starters, 2 substitutes. Each school may bring an A, B and C team- on a first come, first served basis. Skills Practices Target throwing Dodging techniques Catching practice Throwing on the run Deflection practice Game Rules To begin the game, both teams must stand at the back line of the court, facing each other and the dodgeballs, which will be lined up along the centre line. On the buzzer, no more than four pupils from each team may run and try to collect the dodgeballs for their team. Before the balls are thrown, they must be returned to the back line of the court (i.e. pupils may not pick a ball up and throw it straight away from the central line). Players are out in any of the following situations (hit below the head, try to catch the ball and fumble it, cross over the centre line, and throw a ball which is caught by the opposition). Pupils ARE OUT even if the ball the ball bounces ONCE off ground/ wall/ ceiling prior to hitting them. (different to KS2) If a ball is caught, one player from the receiving team may re-enter the game (in chronological order of elimination). Pupils may deflect the ball, using one they are already holding. Players must respect the referee’s judgement, as this is final. 2 players will act as substitutes for each game. They may only enter the match as a result of injury. Games will be timed and decided by the number of players left in from each team. For example; if team A finishes the game with 3 players, and team B with 5 players, then team B win 5-3.
