Pricing and Revenue Management Overview
At United, the Pricing and Revenue Management department optimizes revenue for the company’s industry-leading network. Pricing
defines price points based on industry dynamics and customers’ willingness to pay, as well as assigns rules to the fares. Revenue
Management forecasts demand for each fare product and overbooks the sale of seats to account for cancellations. Both Pricing and
Revenue Management are essential to United’s efforts to maximize revenue on its network.
Job Description
Associate Analysts are placed into either Pricing or Revenue Management depending on the organization’s needs, and are provided
with training focused on industry dynamics, airline economics and Pricing / Revenue Management technical skills. A mentor is also
assigned to each individual for personalized assistance and development.
 Revenue Management Analysts are responsible for a geographic entity of markets and make decisions to improve fare mix,
forecast demand, and set overbooking levels.
 Pricing Analysts set fare levels, monitor distribution, and analyze the competitive landscape for their geographic entity.
In both Pricing and Revenue Management, Associate Analysts are the company’s resident experts who determine forward trends in
bookings and revenue and frequently communicate these trends to leadership inside and outside the department. In addition, they
assess market conditions and customer segments and regularly work together with other departments within the company like
Network Planning, Sales, Marketing, and Operations to coordinate company strategy. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
the following:
 Analyze trends in ticket bookings, revenue and market dynamics
 Assess demand patterns and competitive landscape, segment customers based on market conditions
 Develop fare structure / demand forecast to optimize revenue
 Plan seasonal strategy for upcoming holidays and peak travel periods
 Communicate department strategy, working together with other stakeholders in the company
Critical Skills and Experience









Track record of outstanding analytical and problem solving skills
Proven ability to prioritize a range of responsibilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well with others
Ability to apply quantitative skills and business acumen to airline industry
Relevant work experience and airline industry exposure is a plus, however not required
Current undergraduate student, demonstrating strong academic performance; senior standing required
Position is based in Chicago, IL
Target start dates are December 2016 / January 2017 and summer 2017
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
