Straits Challenge: HV vs Nelson Marlborough Junior Rep Fixture
This was hosted by Hutt Valley this year and held at Mitchell Park on Saturday 10 th and
Sunday 11th September 2016. It got off to a late start with the weather causing travel delays
for visiting teams so the first matches went on court at 12 noon Saturday and the last one
completed at 7pm on Saturday night in time for dinner after shortening the match format
for singles. All players had a doubles, a singles and a mixed doubles on the first day with the
reverse singles played from 8.30am on Sunday. The match standings at the end of Saturday
were 31 to Hutt Valley and 24 to Nelson/Marlb.
Sunday was a sunny day and the singles were all completed by 12.30pm. In total there were
21 matches played with a deciding set needed to determine a winner (either 3 rd set or super
tie set). That’s exactly one quarter of the total 84 matches played!
Hutt Valley were declared the winners with a score of 46 matches to Nelson/Marlborough’s
38.
