SUMNER REDCLIFFS NETBALL CLUB - New Player Newsletter
Welcome to your local areas Netball Club. We are a small community based club which caters to the needs
of players wishing to join us from Lyttelton/Sumner/Redcliffs /Woolston/Mt Pleasant and any other areas in
Christchurch. We currently have our practices at Sumner School. Our committee is run by 8 volunteers. We
will try our best to accommodate all your requests.
Trials: The main idea of trials is so we can ascertain the playing abilities of each player, as judged by a team
of selectors. We then put together teams of players of similar ability. This is to develop better playing skills
for the future, which will help all our players as they move onto high school and higher teams. You may have
different children from different schools playing in your daughter’s team. This is also a good way to develop
and learn good communication and social skills. If you feel this is going to be a problem, please let us know
at the start of trials, rather than wait until you are placed in a team, or email us at









Times for trainings will be discussed between your coach and the players. This is usually based on
the availability of all players, and the coaches’ availability to take them. Please respect the wishes of
your coach who will set the training time, as they are all volunteers.
Getting to and from practises and games is your responsibility as parents, not the coaches. Once
placed in teams some parents can volunteer transport help.
At Registration Day, you will be given a uniform which exists of a club skirt and warm up jacket. You
will be required to purchase a playing top at a cost to you which is yours to keep. If your child grows
out of this, or when/if they move to a high school club team, these tops can be sold back to us. Your
daughter may be in this top for three years so please bear this in mind when buying your top. You
can at any stage return the top to us and purchase a larger one. Some second-hand tops may be
available to purchase if we have returned stock at a first in first served basis.
The skirt/Jacket is the Clubs property and we charge a bond for the return of these items at the end
of each playing season.
Your fees for the season are based on the fees we are charged by Christchurch Netball Centre.
These fees increase at each new level you play.
We are very lucky to have sponsors from our area to help us keep the running costs of our Club to a
minimum. Each Saturday at 4.30 to 5.30 our teams are required to attend The Watershed in
Ferrymead for player of the day prizegiving. Your child will be eligible for a “Player of the Day”
award. If your child wins “Player of the Day” they have to be present at The Watershed to receive
their award.
We hold fundraising activities throughout the year and we will keep you posted as we progress
through the season as to what these will be.
