Assessor guidelines
Introduction
The following guidelines are supplied to enable assessors to carry out valid and consistent
assessment using this internal assessment resource.
As with all assessment resources, education organisations will need to follow their own quality
control processes. Assessors must manage authenticity for any assessment from a public source,
because learners may have access to the assessment schedule or exemplar material. Using this
assessment resource without modification may mean that learners' work is not authentic. The
assessor/educator may need to change figures, measurements or data sources or set a different
context or topic. Assessors need to consider the local context in which learning is taking place and
its relevance for learners.
Assessors need to be very familiar with the outcome being assessed by the unit standard. The
evidence requirements and the explanatory notes contain information, definitions, and
requirements that are crucial when interpreting the standard and assessing learners against it.
Context/setting
This activity requires learners to describe the significance of their own work within an employing
organisation.

Level of expected performance
This is a level 2 standard. This means learners should be:

Using factual and/or operational knowledge of a field of work or study.

Applying known solutions to familiar problems.

Applying standard processes relevant to the field of work or study.

Working under general supervision, taking some responsibility for their own learning and
performance and collaborating with others.
Conditions of Assessment
Assessment by case study, simulation or role play is not appropriate for this standard.
Assessment must take place in an establishment where the learner is working – this may be paid
employment or work experience; assessment may also occur in an organisation where the learner
is engaged in voluntary work.
Where assessment occurs on work experience, it is expected that the nature of that work
experience, the knowledge remands and general duration of the working day fully reflect the
demands of that workplace.
Level of performance expected
This is a level 1 standard. This means learners should be:

Using basic general and/or foundation knowledge in theory questions;

Applying basic solutions to simple problems and applying basic skills required to carry out
simple tasks;

Working in highly structured contexts, taking some responsibility for your own learning;

Interacting with others.
Resource requirements

Documented policies and procedures or established protocols for workplace performance may
be submitted as supplementary evidence.
