AMBERLEA TENNIS CLUB HOUSE LEAGUE 55+ PROGRAM (14 weekly games – from May to August) Regular Round– 12 weekly games starting the 3rd week of May with no make-up games due to rain Play-off Round – 2 weeks of Preliminary & Final Matches with make-up games due to rain Free Lunch& Award Presentation following the Final Round RULES Games are played every Thursday morning from 9 to 11 am. 2 doubles matches will be played every week. Depending on the number of participants, the doubles matches will be set up as either Ladies, Men or Hybrid (2 men + 2 ladies; 3 ladies + 1 man; 3 men + 1 lady) Doubles. 15-minute warm-up is allowed before game time. Games will start at exactly 9:15am. Players who don’t show up on time will have zero point for the first set. Players who don’t show up at all will have zero point for the entire matches; the others will get 6 points. The first serve is determined by tossing the racquet. Partners who pick the right letter or position of the racquet win the toss. First serve is allowed for each player at the opening of the first set only. The 2 hour-game will be played in 3 sets. No deuces are played in every game. At 40-40, the receiving team has the option of which partner will receive the serve. The winner wins the game. At 6 – 6, a 7-point tie breaker with 2-point differential is played to break up the tie to a maximum of 10 points. The partners who win the 10th point first win the game. After each set, players must switch partners. This means you will have 3 different partners in 2 hours of play. The tossing of the racquet is employed again to determine which partners serve first. Scoring is based on the number of games won for each set. For example, if the set score is 6 – 4, the winning partners will be marked down for 6 points each, the losing partners for 4 points each. So each point won is counted and will determine yourindividual standing in the regular & play-off rounds. Page | 1 Your individual standing is calculated based on the ratio of games won over games played (individual performance ratio or IPR). For example as per above-mentioned set score, the winning partners will be marked down as having anIPR of 60% (6/10) each, while the losing partners’ IPR is 40% (4/10) each. Note: this example is just on the first set. The top eight players with the highest IPRs in the regular round will move on to the preliminaryplay-off round. In case of a similar IPR for the 8th position, a 7-point tie breaker with a differential of 2 points will be played (up to a maximum of 10 points whereby the first player who reaches the 10th point is declared the winner). The top four players will play against each other, starting with the 1st& 4th ranked and the 2nd& 3rd ranked as partners on the first set, then switch partners thereafter. The bottom fours will play against each other, starting with the 5th& 8th ranked and the 6th& 7th ranked as partners on the first set, then switch partners thereafter. The same game rules will apply during the preliminary & final rounds. The top four players with the highest IPRsin the preliminary round will play against each other in the final round, starting with the 1st& 4th ranked and the 2nd& 3rd ranked as partners on the first set, then switch partners thereafter. The player with the highest IPR in the final round will be declared the Champion of Amberlea’s 55+ League & will receive an award. In case of an even IPR, a 7-point tie breaker with a differential of 2 points will be played (up to a maximum of 10 points whereby the first player who reaches the 10th point is declared the champion). The presentation of the award & the free lunch party to all 55+ participants will follow upon completion of the final round. Page | 2
