Summary:
Under the direction of the Coordinating Principal(s) of Student Engagement, the T4L Student Engagement Teachers (K-12) will collaborate with school staff in building
capacity to work with special education needs of all exceptionalities at all grade levels.
Responsibilities:
Assist with facilitating and coordinating supports for students with special education
requests, and to effectively communicate and work with school staff, community
resources and Psychological Services regarding what the student needs to move the
work to the next level
To provide training and support to the school-based LRC/LRT in the application of a
wide range of assessment and evaluation tools
To promote strategies from Ministry resources to assist teachers in developing tasks
that result in high quality student work
To facilitate the planning and implementation of appropriate professional learning
activities for staff with respect to specific learning needs of students
The Student Engagement Teachers will also work with principals, classroom teachers
and T4L staff, both in schools and in collaborative inquiry networks (hubs) to facilitate
teacher moderation and determine the next steps in instruction.
Skills:
-
Knowledge of instructional strategies and formats to engage students and inform
teaching practice (differentiated instruction, universal design for learning,
assessment and evaluation)
Effective time management and organizational skills
Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the use of assistive technology
Familiar with a wide range of assessment tools, communication strategies and
safety strategies and requirements
Qualifications:
An Ontario Teacher’s Certificate of Qualification
Special Education Part 1
Hold Qualifications in 2 divisions with a commitment to work toward a 3rd Division
Minimum of 5 years teaching experience
Member of the Ontario College of Teachers in good standing
Training in ABA preferred
Conditions:
Salary – Grid plus travel allowance
Term – One year renewable (at end of term, return to home School)
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required
