How do I login to DSU Online Services or Blackboard

Issue No. 88 – July 6, 2007
How do I login to DSU Online
Services or Blackboard-CE6?
DSU Online Services is an integrated system of web
pages that provides students access to their records
over the Internet. The DSU enterprise system uses
Sungard Higher Education's Banner ERP. This system
is tightly integrated with the Blackboard CE6 course
management system allowing you to use a single
login and password (sometimes called “PIN” –
personal identification number) to access both DSU
Online Services and Blackboard CE6. You will
always use your DSU 900# ID number and your
associated password to login to either of these
services. Any changes you make to your DSU Online
Services password will be reflected in your BB CE6
online course management system login. Additional
information regarding your DSU Online Services
account can be found on the DSU Online Services
FAQ page.
Alert: Fake E-Cards on
campus
There has been a significant increase on
campus in the number of fake electronic
greeting cards (e-cards) being delivered to
campus inboxes. These e-cards appear to
come from legitimate sources, but they are
actually from companies hoping to trick you
into going to their sites. The e-cards
prompt the recipient to select a link that will
infect their computer with malware. The
scams appear to be coming from
123greetings.com and
americangreetings.com, but if you look
carefully at the “from” address in the
emails, you will see that the URL is different
than those two legitimate sites. If you do
receive one of these emails, delete the
message and DO NOT CLICK ON ANY
LINK, simply delete it from your inbox.
More Information on this new malware
attempt can be seen at Fake E-cards on

Blackboard-CE6 Student Woes (and
Wiles)
Faculty are encouraged to direct students expressing
BB-CE6 technical troubles to the BB-CE6 24/7 Help
Desk: x4800 on campus, 846.4800 in town, and
1.866.264.1465 toll free. The call connects students
with support staff who in most cases have years of
experience troubleshooting course management
system issues. More often than not, students fail to
log in to the system because they are unaware of the
log in conventions (username = “900 number” and
password = “6-digit date of birth”)--or they have
changed their 6-digit password to something they
can’t remember and need to reset it. The BB-CE6
home page (http://blackboard.deltastate.edu) now
provides a direct link to DSU Online Services where
students may reset their passwords online. The
homepage also provides other self-help for
troubleshooting common Java and Javascript errors.

Important Changes for your
Exchange/AD account
In order to provide a more secure service and
provide new tools for the campus, two
significant changes have been implemented for
Exchange and Microsoft Active Directory.
Enhanced Security: To enhance security for
our Webmail and Smartphone users, OIT
recently implemented a new SSL certificate for
these services. To access Webmail from the
Internet, make sure you are referencing the
following site https://webmail.deltastate.edu.
Note the “s” after the http” as that tells you
that you are logging in to a secure site. Make
sure you update your links as the old link will
not be available after July 15.
Smartphone users must change their device to
use SSL certificates. This is generally found
under the options settings of your phone.

log in” merit at least a little skepticism. Faculty are
encouraged to check the student’s log-in history. Just
select the Teach tab in your course, then the Tracking
option in the Instructor Tools menu. Select the
Student Tracking option and the inclusive dates you
wish to survey before running the report. Not only will
you learn when the student accessed the course
initially and most recently, but you will get a sense of
how the student has been using the course over time.
If you want students to appreciate the fact that their
work is tracked by the course management system
yet it feels somehow Orwellian to say so, consider
making the My Progress tool available for students on
their My Tools menu. They will see clearly that their
work is being tracked; their “progress” is
demonstrated terms of number of sessions, access
time, and content pages visited. You can select this
feature by selecting Manage Course on the Instructor
or Designer Tools menu, selecting the Manage Menu
option, then selecting the My Progress tool under the
My Tools heading.

If you enter the above successfully, you will be
prompted to reset your password. If you enter
any of the above incorrectly, or do not know
the answers, then contact the Help Desk @662846-4444 for assistance. Remember,
