PRESS RELEASE
Little Downham Horse Trials Back With A Bang For 2017
The ‘little’ event with big ideas, is yet again offering competitors increased prize money, enhanced
initiatives, new ideas and new technology for 2017, as entries open on the 28th April.
Following its 2015 and 2016 success the Protexin Equine Premium Accumulator returns with a bumper
end of season prize money pot, that saw 2016 winner Joanne Watts receive an additional £600, for
finishing top of the leaderboard across the BE90 and BE100 classes.
Following feedback from owners and riders regarding the new photography policy in 2016, developments
have been added to the initiative for 2017.
“The change last year was largely very popular, however we were aware that competitors missed being
able to purchase images on the day and that a number of professionals and owners were increasingly
frustrated at looking at different websites and coping with the different time frames from
photographers.” – Sarah Skillin, PR & Marketing for Little Downham Horse Trials
In a bid to tick all of the boxes requested by competitors – high quality, variety of images, onsite purchase
and reasonable pricing, Little Downham Horse Trials welcomes Spidge Event Photography on board for
2017, in addition to a number of returning freelance photographers from 2016, who will also be offering
their images for sale.
“As a forward thinking and customer focused event photography company we are prepared to try the
collaborative hybrid initiative. If it proves to be a workable model, then it provides an improved option to
cater to all sectors of the market.” Peter Martin-Turner of Spidge Event Photography.
This year Little Downham will be trialling a new digital programme app that delivers key event
information including Cross Country course details, sponsor and competitor information and more, in
addition to also offering a traditional print programme and PDF download version.
“Unlike other digital programmes currently in use, this solution has the capability to integrate most
elements of a traditional programme, as well as changing information (such as announcements, scores and
results) into the one app, providing a quick and seamless experience for users. Initially, the app will be
trialled with ‘static’ programme information, with plans to integrate live data features in the future.”
Benjie Unwin, Cross Country Controller & Delabond technology partner.
“The change in how Little Downham did photography at their event was great and inspiring. It gives
smaller photographers a chance to showcase their skills and gives competitors more choice and
memories. The idea of the app is well needed to shift the sport into where it should be. It is exciting to be
able to have all that information readily available in your pocket.” – Jenny Young, who made a first visit
to the event in July 2016.
Little Downham Horse Trials looks forward to welcoming competitors from BE90 to Advanced level in
their first British Eventing affiliated event of the season from the 2nd to the 4th June.

Editors Notes:
Ely Eventing Centre is home to Cambridgeshire’s premier equestrian event - The Childeric Saddles Little
Downham Horse Trials and works closely with British Eventing to put on 8 days of affiliated eventing
each year across three events, both of which are organised by Ely Eventing Centre's owner Tina Ure.
Little Downham Horse Trials continually attracts a plethora of International eventing stars and grassroots
riders, with 2016 seeing 14 nations represented.
The Protexin Equine Premium Accumulator runs across the BE90 and BE100 classes with points being
awarded for top 10 placings. The combination with the highest number of points after the 3 events will
be crowned series champion. £600 will be awarded to the series winner with prize money and prizes
awarded to 4th place.
The Digital Event App is being developed in partnership between EquiConsulting and Delabond with the
main structure of the app built around information available within most current paper-based formats.
The scalability of the solution is still in a developmental stage but it has been designed so that event
organisers can submit their programme information on templates, ready to be imported into the
app. The aim is to develop a process that is simple for organisers and means that the digital programme
can be generated and made available in an efficient and cost-effective way for each event.
