BEHIND THE GLASS - Feb. 2, 2017

In curling, sometimes Lady Luck rides with you and sometimes she throws you under the bus. Picks,
wicks and ticks are part of the game, sometimes they go your way and sometimes not. That is unless
your name is Barry Griese, then they seem to always go your way and Lady Luck drives you home in her
bus!
Updating the latest Low Cup action. Renfrew travelled to Deep River to take on Pembroke and came
back with a split. The team of Rob Warren, Don Rouble, Ron Townson and Joe Kasaboski lost game 1, 86, after coming back from being down 7-2. They were down 1 coming home without hammer and
counting one, and then lost a rock to a pick. Game over. Lady Luck turned her eye to another sheet after
lunch and Warren's foursome won 9-6.
The team of Dave Eady, Jim Berg, Rory McKay and George Burton won their first game 8-6. But in the
afternoon, they lost 7-6. The local lads were up 6-2 after 5, gave up 3, then 1, then 1. Was Lady Luck
now messing on their sheet? Well………
Travelling to Pembroke, both Renfrew teams settled for a win and a tie. Rob Warren, Don Rouble, Ed
Hanson and Joe Kasaboski won game 1 easily 10-4 and then battled in game 2 to an 8-8 result, The
game featured several great shots in 8th from both teams before Arnprior took one with the hammer to
tie.
The team of Dave Eady, Andy Miller, Andy Sklepowicz and Bernie Leclaire made all their shots in game 1
and won 7-3. In game 2, two late misses by their second helped lead to a tie, 9-9.
Pembroke, now in second place gained a few points on ends won and cut Renfrew's lead atop the
standings marginally.
The club championships, once a weekend event, has now expanded to a full week event and it started
with eight of the nine men's teams in action during the week. In opening men's action, in a very even
game going down to last rock, the Ed Hanson rink sent the A. Sklepowicz team to the B-side. Other
winners were Valleau's gang in their yearly upset of the Warren foursome on a last rock measure, the
Bowles' band over Townson's troops as Bill's sweepers dragged his last rock in for the win and the
Yolkowskie crew defeated Leo McCallum's lads. For the final results see next week's column
