The 2017 Best of Awards Highlighting the very Best of SADD Nation What are the Best of Awards? At the 2017 SADD National Conference in Tampa, Florida, SADD will recognize the stellar work of some of its most outstanding contributors, chosen from nominations made by SADD representatives from across the country. SADD will present Best of SADD Awards in four categories: Activity of the Year, Advisor of the Year, Chapter of the Year and the Spirit of SADD Award. Nomination & Selection Process Nominations may be made by anyone involved in the SADD network. Both students and adults may submit nominations; self-nominations are also accepted. Nominations must be related to work supporting the SADD mission between April 2016 and April 2017. Complete nominations must include the Nomination Form, a completed Questionnaire, and at least two letters of recommendation. Nominations may also be supported by additional materials (e.g., testimonials, news reports, photographs, videos, and other written or visual material). Winners in each category may be asked to submit additional material to enhance the award presentation at the 2017 SADD National Conference. All nominations should be completed electronically and emailed to Lindsey Kobelt, Director of Communications, at [email protected] with “2017 Best of SADD National Awards” in the subject line. Nominations (including all accompanying materials) must be received by close of business on Monday, May 1, 2017. Letters of recommendation, newspaper clippings, and other hard copies of supporting materials should be scanned and included with the application in one PDF and attached to the email. Award recipients will be selected by a committee composed of various members of SADD Nation. A first, second and third place award will be presented with a $500, $250 and $100 prize, respectably. The first place winner in each category will also receive one free conference registration SADD reserves the right to re-categorize any application if it appears otherwise ineligible or better suited in the category for which it was submitted. At the conclusion of the judging process, nominators will be contacted by email with the status of their nomination. The winners will be announced at the 2017 SADD National Conference, scheduled for June 25 - 28, 2017, in Tampa, Florida. Winners are encouraged to attend conference but attendance is not a requirement to win. Description of Awards Activity of the Year This award is for the best activity, campaign, program, or project by a chapter related to SADD’s mission of promoting safe and healthy decision-making. Judges will consider the following qualities, among others: innovation, creativity, reach, effectiveness, and collaboration. In your nomination, provide a detailed written summary of the activity, including its name, goal or purpose, date(s) when the activity was held, target audience, number of people affected and how they were affected, any costs associated with its implementation, and any resulting media coverage. You may include a letter of support from a school administrator and/or partner as well as any other supporting materials. Advisor of the Year This award will be presented to the individual who is considered the most outstanding SADD advisor. Include the reasons why you think your advisor is the best, share his or her passion for SADD, and provide examples to support your nomination. Be sure to include the full name, home address, telephone number, and email address of the advisor and the length of time he or she has served as SADD advisor. Information about students in the SADD chapter and how the advisor and the students interact should also be included. Chapter of the Year This award will be presented to the best, most effective SADD chapter. Tell us why you think your chapter is the best, and provide support materials to back up your nomination. On the nomination form, be sure to provide the names of your chapter and your school (and the address), your advisor’s name and contact information, a brief history of your chapter, and details about its activities over the past school year, including why you think it should be recognized as SADD National’s 2017 Chapter of the Year. You may include news clips, a letter of support from a school administrator and/or a parent, or other supporting materials. Spirit of SADD Award- NEW FOR 2017 This award will be presented to student in SADD Nation who best represents the spirit and values of SADD Nation. This award, new for the 2017 Award Cycle, will be selected by the Student Leadership Council and College Advisory Council and go to a student who has demonstrated inclusiveness, hard work, kindness and an overall work ethic that contributes to the work of SADD Nation. Award Recognitions First-place award winners in each category will receive a cash prize of $500 and one free registration to the 2017 or 2018 National Conference. Second- and third-place winners in each category will receive $250 and $100 prizes, respectively, and will be recognized throughout the national conference. First place winners will be recognized at the 2017 SADD Awards Celebration on June 27 at the Florida Aquarium. Discuss how your advisor supports the students who are leading the chapter. 3. Describe one situation that exemplifies the reasons he or she should be the SADD National Advisor of the Year. Explain, in detail, the qualities you think comprise an effective SADD chapter. How does your SADD chapter exemplify those qualities? 3.
