A GRAHAM MEDIA GROUP STATION
KPRC Channel 2 and Mattress 1 ONE, with the cooperation of public high schools
from Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery Counties, will award twenty (20) $2,500
scholarships to deserving high school seniors. A winning student and school will be
featured in KPRC Channel 2’s newscasts each week beginning the week of January
18, 2016. Each scholarship recipient will also receive a gift certificate for a new
mattress from Mattress 1 ONE.
SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS
KPRC Channel 2 is asking high schools in the following school districts to nominate
TWO students per school:

Alief ISD
Channelview ISD
Clear Creek ISD
Conroe ISD
Crosby ISD
Cypress Fairbanks ISD
Deer Park ISD
Fort Bend ISD
Galena Park ISD
Goose Creek ISD
Houston ISD
Huffman ISD
Humble ISD
Katy ISD
Klein ISD
La Porte ISD
Lamar Consolidated ISD
Magnolia ISD
Needville ISD
New Caney ISD
Pasadena ISD
Sheldon ISD
Splendora ISD
Spring ISD
Spring Branch ISD
Stafford MSD
Tomball ISD
Waller ISD
Willis ISD
Nominees should fit the following criteria:
 Student is a graduating senior who has been accepted (or has a pending
application) to a two or four year college in the Fall
 Student has good to strong grades
 Student exhibits outstanding leadership skills and is committed to his/her
education and community
 Students who have overcome significant obstacles, shown measured
improvement and/or demonstrated leadership in extracurricular activities will be
given additional consideration
KPRC Channel 2 will have the sole responsibility of selecting the winning students.
The winning student’s high school will be responsible for administering the scholarship
money to the student’s college or university. Each $2,500 scholarship is a one-time
payout and should be used during the 2016-2017 school year.

The application form calls for the school representative to enter basic information about
the student and to upload an essay (500 words or less) written by the student explaining
why they deserve to be a KPRC2 Senior Scholar. Please turn essay in to Mrs. Brown in
the Counseling Center.
We are accepting applications beginning immediately and will continue to accept them
until April 3, 2016. Students will be awarded scholarships between the third week of
January and the last week of May. The nominee pool will grow as the spring semester
progresses, so nominees submitted early will have a greater chance and more
opportunities to be selected.
