Announcements:

June Long Weekend. If you are planning to be away on the June Long Weekend 9 – 11th June
please inform your manager. Team entries for the annual 6-a-side go in this week and unless I
hear otherwise we will enter as many teams as possible. Usually under 6 – 12 play on the
Saturday and older teams on the Monday. This is yet to be confirmed for this year.


The boys put in another good showing this week against more experienced opposition.
In the first half it was the brave efforts of Oscar in goal that kept the scoreline respectable against a
St Bernadette’s side that seemed to have all the possession.
Lachlan chipped in with some good defence as well.
The second half saw roughly the same, although we seemed to be able to get a few chances to
clear the ball from our half with some runs from Declan, Mitchell, Rushan (our newest player) and
Lachlan. Needless to say Noah, the replacement keeper, was kept busy all half, while Bradley and
Jason are getting more involved every week.
We still have some way to go as the boys learn the game, but their willingness to keep going is an
encouraging sign.

The U6 Greens showed off all their skills on the weekend with a fantastic attacking display for the
first home game of the year. Liam the youngest in the team scored his first career goal in the
second half, making it a double a short time later. His improvement over the last couple of weeks
has been fantastic. Malik again weaved his magic with 6 goals and again could have scored more
but for his unselfish willingness to pass to a team mate in a better position. Seth was not far behind
with 4 goals and certainly knows where to stand and run, in order to get the ‘glory’ up front with
some terrific shots at goal. Osama with 1 goal leads the way in grafting the ball down from one end
enabling our strikers to dominate possession. Ibrahim was solid in attack and defence, as was Dan
who had little to do in the first half in goals. Lucas leads the way in defence, a major reason we
have only conceded 1 goal all year. Mariska the Goalkeeper in the second half succeeded in
keeping the opposition scoreless with a great save from a penalty in the final minute. Well done
Mariska. The U6 Greens will face their toughest test of the season this weekend, taking on Rouse
Hill who rolled our boys 12 – 0 last year, and seem to produce some excellent players out that way.

The U8 Gunners had to dig deep this week with, only just enough players to field a full side but no
subs. Parents please make sure to get the players to the game at least 20 mins before kickoff. The
first half was end to end with the boys working hard all over the field. It was Tyler who made the
breakthrough with a superbly taken shot over the keepers head. 1 -0. Lawrence and Daigo also
looked dangerous in attack but it was solid defence by Sean, Alex Park and Ruben that kept us in
the game. Kevin made some good saves but we finally succumbed late in the half to the equalizer
to make it 1 -1 at half time. Lawrence took over keeping duties for the 2nd half and foiled all
attempts on goal. Alex Palmer was unlucky not to get a penalty when brought down in the penalty
area but the ref waived play on. Thomas also came close to breaking the deadlock but had a great
shot saved on the line. It was Sylvan who finally managed to squeeze a shot between their goalie
and the post to make it 2 -1 midway through the half and restore the lead. The fresh legs of the
subs for St Michaels were starting to tell but Daigo, Tyler and Ruben were heroic in defence. After
yet another goal mouth scramble it was Alex Palmer who made the game safe by nudging the ball
into the net. 3 -1. That was the final score and a well deserved win. Well played all the boys, what a
great game to watch!

Between the school holidays, byes and wash-outs, it had been 4 weeks since the Under 10's had
played and so everyone was starved of football and ready for a big game this week. Well it turned
out that no-one would leave dissatisfied as we had a feast of top quality soccer against Rouse Hill,
one of the top teams in our division. No-one was able to score in a tense first half that featured
some great defensive work from the Gunners and set up an exciting second half. Rouse Hill took
the lead early in the second half but the Gunners fought back straight away with an excellent goal
that was finished with clinical precision by Greg Melynyk. Rouse Hill scored again to take a 2-1
lead and we were then in for a most exciting last 10 minutes as Newington pounded the Rouse Hill
goal again and again in search of the equaliser, only to be thwarted each time by bad luck (and
some good defense). The boys gave it their all and tried their hearts out. The game was high
quality throughout, with Newington clearly out-pointing our opponents with superior passing and
general teamwork for large portions of the match. One of the highlights was the quality of the
corner kicks taken by the Gunners, obviously something they have been working on at training. It
was a great team effort by the Gunners all around, it is hard to single out individual players as
everyone played such a great game but I have to give a special mention Mark Lan who was
outstanding as goalkeeper for the whole match, making some fantastic saves and keeping us in
the game. Well done everyone, if we keep playing like that we will have an outstanding season.

Important notices
1. If for any reason your child is unable to play or attend training you MUST inform your coach or manager.
2. If you have questions regarding your team, ask your manager. If you have any questions regarding
administrations, ask the club’s secretary.
3. If it is raining on a Saturday morning call the team manager to see if the game is on. Most often games will
still be on so do not just stay at home; you will be letting your child's team down!

It’s raining, it’s Saturday! Is the game on? Your manager will know if the game is on, give them a call. Very
rarely is a decision made before Friday evening

It’s raining and it’s training tonight! Is training on? Managers/coaches call Auburn council to see if ground is
closed. You cannot train if the ground is closed, even if it’s not raining!! Parents and players call the manager
4. Please assist the coach and manager; they are working unpaid for your child. There may be nets to put up or
pull down, corner posts to stick in, players to be picked up (particularly if a parent has more than one child
playing in different teams) or shirts to wash.
5. This club and the NSW Churches Football Association have high expectations of our parents and players.
Please support our teams, but no abuse of players or officials will be tolerated and bans or fines could result.
