REGISTRATION
Dear Parents and Guardians:
The YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region is excited to be provided with the opportunity to
continue the current recreational Y Kids Club before and after school programs at Katimavik School in
the fall of 2015.
WHAT IS THE YMCA-YWCA
About the YMCA-YWCA
For more than 145 years, the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region has been at the centre of our
community, helping people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities live engaging, more rewarding lives. A
charity dedicated to the health of individuals, families and communities, the Y is accessible to all,
serving more than 75,000 individuals and 31,400 children in our region each year.
Our programs and services address significant social and health issues with initiatives tailored to local
community needs. We work to build healthy communities and advocate for children, teens and young
adults, helping all to reach their potential and realize their goals
The Y has been providing before and after school programs to local schools for over 20 years.
Y Kids Club Programs
Y Kids Club programs help bridge the gaps between your children’s school day and your work day.
These programs are recreation based and focus on the principles of Play, Relationships and Health in
promoting the healthy development of each child. We provide staff-led sports, activities and
cooperative games based on our CATCH Kids Club physical activity and nutrition education program.
There is time for socializing with friends, snacks, homework help and independent play indoors and
out.
In 2014/15 Y staff were trained in our Y Healthy Child Development program and a values based
program called ‘Play It Fair’ which gave staff more cooperative games for the children to learn and
have fun. Equitas, a human rights organization also gave staff the opportunity to advance their training
with older youth in their Speaking Rights training. The Y achieved an award for promoting Human
Rights Education in Ottawa as we hosted collaborative training sessions throughout the year for Y staff
and the wider community. Staff also have access to online trainings in after school programming and
skill development through the ON After School network funded by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture
and Sport.
HOURS OF OPERATION
The programs will run from 7:15 am to 8:45 am in the Before School Program and from 3:15 pm to 6:00
pm for the After School Program. The program will be closed for all Statutory and Civic Holidays
including Family Day and Easter Monday which follows the same schedule as the school. PD day
programs are held at our local Y centres for an additional fee. Please check out our website at
ymcaywca.ca for times and locations.
PROGRAM SPACE
The school will designate space for the program dependent upon numbers as we approach September
2015. At present we meet in the library and have gym time later in the afternoon. Many of the group
games take place outdoors. You will be informed of the program location before school begins with a
welcome call from your child’s program supervisor.
