NOVEMBER, DECEMBER, 2016-JANUARY, 2017 EDITION
A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT ROSE ANN PALESTRO
Hi, everyone. I just wanted to touch base with all of you. First, I would like to thank all of the
members who participated in, and donated their time for the Card Party. Everyone enjoyed the
afternoon.
Secondly, for those members whom I will not see at our November meeting, I wish a Happy
Thanksgiving to you and your families. Also, to those members who are not attending our
Christmas/Holiday Party, I would like to wish you a Blessed Christmas and a Happy Hanukkah.
A MESSAGE FROM VALERIE MIX, TREASURER
It is important that any member who has not as yet paid her dues of $25 for the year, please do so
as soon as possible. We would like everyone paid up before the next meeting. Please remember
that our dues money is necessary to the running of our Club. It helps us pay for mailings, stationery
supplies, and all other incidentals. Thanks for your cooperation.
SEPTEMBER 15, 2016 GENERAL MEETING
Our first meeting of the 2016-2017 season opened with a wonderful casserole lunch provided by all
our members. Jan Roberts and the September hostesses provided delicious desserts. While
catching up with other members and enjoying our meals, we conducted the usual first meeting
business: collecting dues, buying tickets for the upcoming Card Party Fundraiser, and signing up for
some cultural field trips.
President Rose Ann Palestro began the meeting by explaining the changes that will be implemented
for the Card Party at Spring Mill Country Club on Oct. 6, 2016. There will be no small
sweepstakes prizes, but 8 gift baskets to be raffled off, along with the lottery- ticket- covered
apron. Our other Fundraisers this year will be held in February at Vince’s Pizza in Yardley, a
Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s in Newtown in March and the annual Fashion Show in April at
Spring Mill Country Club. In addition, a change has been made in the Fundraising procedures. All
projects will now be spearheaded by a committee consisting of several members of the Executive
Board. Any member who has an idea for a fundraising project can contact Rose Ann or any member
of the committee.
Treasurer Valerie Mix gave her report, and the Club is in good financial shape, but we do need to
raise as much money as we can, and everyone is urged to help us achieve our goals. Linda Lee, chair
of the Lunch Bunch, introduced us to Beth Barnes, who will be joining the Club. Linda also
announced that she will be away in October and asked if anyone was interested in running a Lunch
Bunch outing for that month. November’s Lunch Bunch meeting will be a week earlier than usual,
and December will not have a Lunch Bunch meeting, due to the busy Holiday season. Regularly
scheduled Lunch Bunch meetings on the last Friday of each month may be changed due to a possible
conflict with the Pinochle Club. Daphne Mroz, as she stated last May, will be organizing a group of
volunteers who can assist other members in times of need, such as a ride to a doctor’s appointment,
or any other task that cannot be fulfilled by the member’s family or friends. She will provide us
with more information in the future. Both Rose Ann and Marcia Silbe invited the members to
attend VFW Post 6393’s Pancake Breakfast to be held on October 8, 2016. Marcia’s husband,
Michael, is spearheading this Fundraiser for the Post. Trip Chairperson, Lenore Rosen, announced
2 upcoming trips: October 6, 2016 to the Michener Museum to see the Steve McCurry Exhibit, and
November 2, 2016, to visit the studio of designer Harshita Lohida. The date of the annual Tea at
Judy Reedman’s house was changed to October 10, 2016. Jean Faeser won the 50-50 of $27.50.
HELPFUL HANDS
Daphne Mroz, the Coordinator of our new Helpful Hands group, has compiled a list of members who
would be willing to help members in need of a ride to an appointment, meals for shut-ins or other
necessities if family members or friends cannot provide assistance. Please keep this list handy.

MICHENER MUSEUM TRIP
Lenore Rosen, Trip Coordinator, arranged for her group to see the McCurry photographic exhibit of
scenes from Afghanistan on Thursday, October 6, 2015. They also explored the rest of the
Doylestown museum and then enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Caleb’s Restaurant in Lashaska. If you are
interested in attending one of Lenore’s cultural outings, she always has a sign-up sheet available at
our General Meetings, or she can be reached at 215-579-9522.

ANNUAL TEA PARTY
Monday, October 10, 2016 was the date of Judy Reedman’s annual Tea Party. As always, it was a
wonderful affair with lots of goodies to eat, and good friends to chat with. Marylin Hankins did a
bit of entertaining by playing the piano, and Lenore Rosen sang along with some of the songs. We
thank Judy for graciously opening her home once again and providing us with another opportunity to
spend some time together.
CARD PARTY FUNDRAISER
Our Fall Card Party Fundraiser was held on Monday, Oct. 17, 2016 at Spring Mill Country Club. As
always, the staff was very accommodating, and the lunch was quite tasty. Among the winners of
the Money Trees were Cindy Nagle, Mary Fazzalore, Marcia Silbe, Ingrid Holmes and Ellie Koerner.
Judy Cunningham won the 50-50 of $92.50, Mary Lou Sweeney won the Lottery Ticket Apron, and
the gift baskets were won by Lenore Rosen, Judy Cunningham, RoseAnn Palestro, Regina Gibney, and
Mary Lou Sweeney. Everyone had a great time playing cards, Scrabble, and Bunco. It was a relaxing,
fun afternoon.
OCTOBER 20, 2016 GENERAL MEETING
The annual Halloween Meeting was sparsely attended, but it was a fun, productive meeting. Cyndy
Montes has graciously decided to accept the Chair of the Notifications Committee, as Marylin
Hankins has resigned the position. President RoseAnn Palestro announced that the dates of our
upcoming fundraisers will be as follows: Vince’s Pizza on February 14, 2017, Applebee’s Pancake
Breakfast on March 4, 2017, and the Calendar Party/ Fashion Show on April2, 2017. Even
though we netted about $800 on the Card Party on October 17, 2016, it was suggested that we
might not continue with this type of fundraiser for a while and perhaps look for other ideas which
will raise more money. For our 2017-2018 season, we are planning on holding a Designer Bag
fundraiser, and another Fashion Show fundraiser.
In honor of the memory of Linda Curran’s son John, the Club wen a contribution to Breathing
Room. A change in the Lunch Bunch meetings was announced. November’s Lunch Bunch will meet on
November 18, 2016 at La Villa in Morrisville. Cindy Nagle will be hosted a craft show at her home
on Monday, Nov. 7, 2016 at 7 PM. The $30 50-50 was won by Cyndy Montes. Our presenter at this
meeting was Eleanor Reigel of Mary Kay Cosmetics, who taught us about proper skincare, and the
use of cosmetics. Cindy Nagle, Mary Lou Sweeney, and Gail Lester volunteered to be used as
models for make-up application.
