For over 150 years the HOA has provided quality care and support for people presenting with complex and challenging health needs as well as coexisting issues such as homelessness, unemployment and relationship issues. Healthy Options Australia carries out its objects through the three program companies: the Australian College of Community Services, Drug ARM Australasia and the Mental Health Association Qld. Overall Mission: Helping people build a better life. Drug ARM Australasia Drug ARM Australasia is a not-for-profit organisation committed to reducing harms associated with alcohol and other drug use. Drug ARM Australasia provides a vital outreach of care and compassion through services that assist individuals, families and communities throughout New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia. Programs and services are offered to provide early intervention, prevention, treatment, recovery and outreach. What has the National ‘ICE’ Action Taskforce resulted in for Drug ARM? Meeting Community Needs Recognition of crystal methamphetamine use on the island - Funding has come from the National ‘Ice’ Action Strategy No regular AOD worker. No localised services. No specialist services. - 0.8 FTE Case Worker position living on the Island Cross-sectoral call for AOD supports for the island - Co-located at the Community Centre with many other organisations and services Limited AOD support services for Adults and Carers - The programs and services funded under this strategy National ‘Ice’ Action Strategy: Introducing Kangaroo Island 3. Meeting Community Needs - Programs and Services Community and Family Support Service (CAFSS) • CAFSS assists individuals and significant others (family members, carers, friends, etc) with alcohol and/or other drug issues. Clients are provided with assessment, support, brief treatment interventions, and counselling for 12 weeks or 4 weeks for Significant Others. • CAFSS is appropriate for clients across the continuum of Early Intervention to Relapse Prevention • The service is provided by the Case Worker, or by trained and skilled volunteers and/or tertiary level placement students in a co-counselling model supervised by the Case Worker • Practice Frameworks of Harm Minimisation, Biopsychosocial Model, Recovery Orientation • Primary Approaches of Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Client-Centred treatment • Flexible model of delivery and flexible access to treatment • Individualised treatment program focussing on the client’s identified individual goals. Meeting Community Needs - Programs and Services SMART Recovery • SMART Recovery is a group program assisting individuals with any problematic behaviours. Behaviours can include alcohol and or drugs, or other dependencies such as gambling, food, internet, shopping etc. • Guided by a trained facilitator as well as peers providing mutual aid support • Primary approaches of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Interviewing • Uses a 4-Point Program • • • • Build and maintain motivation Cope with urges Learn problem solving techniques Achieve lifestyle balance National ‘Ice’ Action Strategy: Introducing Kangaroo Island 3. Meeting Community Needs - Programs and Services Significant Other Group • A facilitated support group for family members, carers, friends, etc… who may be experiencing difficulties around other’s substance use. • Focus around Psychoeducation Community Education • Provision of community education and information on AOD • Focus will be for Young People • Collaboration with schools and youth AOD worker (FWS) National ‘Ice’ Action Strategy: Introducing Kangaroo Island 3.
