Discernment is a process that basically wants us to give prayerful thought to a decision or commitment that we may make in order to give of our time, talent and/or treasure to serve God, the Church or others. It is determining how one might best use one's gifts to share. St. Patrick’s Day Card/Game Party & Luncheon Presidential Banquet Center 4572 Presidential Way Saturday, March 10, 2018 2017 St. Patrick’s Day Card/Game Party and Luncheon by Julianne McCain, Chair The DCWC held its St. Patrick’s Day Card/Game Party and Luncheon on March 11 at the Presidential Banquet Center in Kettering. Starting at 10:00 a.m., members and guests enjoyed games ranging from Dominoes, Shanghai Rum to Bridge. At the noon lunch break, our Spiritual Advisor, Sr. Rose Wildenhaus, led us in prayer. During lunch over 35 “Chance Prizes” were raffled. They ranged from bottles of wine, jewelry, candles and bathroom toiletries. The large cash raffle prizes were generously donated by Fred Kreuzer, CPA, Houser Asphalt and Concrete and a member who wishes to remain anonymous. Winners were: Vivian Koob Ruth Campion Betsy Friedlander Elaine Gran Joan Jankowski Merle Marsh Phyllis Campion Thecla Zech Theresa Warych Theresa Warych Marla Wagner Theresa Warych $100 $50 $25 $25 $25 $25 afghan (by Fran Duell-member) gift basket (by Cheryl Case-member) gift basket (by Cheryl Case-member) Amber Rose Restaurant $50 Elsa’s Restaurant (Far Hills) $25 Oberer’s Flowers $50 Congratulations To All Winners! (con’t on page 2) For any major decision that we have in our lives, we should use discernment to find the best solution. Through prayer, advice from those in our lives and through researching appropriate information, we can make the best choice possible. God's guidance is important, so is placing our faith in Him as well as using the gifts He has given us in making important decisions. In Lent, we look at how to discern being the person God has called us to be through our Baptism. We search for opportunities for prayer, service, repentance and almsgiving. In our organization, during the end of this 2-year term, we are asked to discern who will be new members of our board. May each of us pray, take advice from others and search for our time, talent and treasure that God has given us to guide us to see how we can best help DCWC grow. May those who agree to help for the next 2-year term be blessed by God’s graces to make the right choices and changes for DCWC. During this period of Lent and as we end the chill of winter and look to the comforts of Spring, we thank God for the many blessings He has given us. We use the season of Lent to determine how we might change our lives and serve Him faithfully. We look forward to the high celebration of Easter. God Bless! The blankets were three different sizes-small for babies, medium size for the older kids and a larger size for the adults who are at the Shelter. Financial support for the group's project was provided by the Dayton Catholic Women's Club and Holy Angels School. Some of DCWC'S Board Members helped to make the blankets also. The board is now in process of making Easter Baskets for these homeless children at St Vincent de Paul. Several members of DCWC toured the St Vincent de Paul Shelter for these children and their mothers. The leaders at St Vincent were very grateful and thankful for our help and our presence.
