A Process of Prayerful Thought
There are many things that we are asked to “discern” in our
lives. Discernment is a process that basically wants us to give
prayerful thought to a decision or commitment that we may
make in order to give of our time, talent and/or treasure to serve
God, the Church or others. It is determining how one might
best use one's gifts to share.

For any major decision that we have in our lives, we should
use discernment to find the best solution. Through prayer,
advice from those in our lives and through researching
appropriate information, we can make the best choice possible.
God's guidance is important, so is placing our faith in Him as
well as using the gifts He has given us in making important
decisions. In Lent, we look at how to discern being the person
God has called us to be through our Baptism. We search for
opportunities for prayer, service, repentance and almsgiving.
In our organization, during the end of this 2-year term, we
are asked to discern who will be new members of our board.
May each of us pray, take advice from others and search for
our time, talent and treasure that God has given us to guide us
to see how we can best help DCWC grow. May those who
agree to help for the next 2-year term be blessed by God’s
graces to make the right choices and changes for DCWC.
During this period of Lent and as we end the chill of winter
and look to the comforts of Spring, we thank God for the many
blessings He has given us. We use the season of Lent to
determine how we might change our lives and serve Him
faithfully. We look forward to the high celebration of Easter.
God Bless!

(St. Patrick's Day Card/Game Party & Luncheon, con’t from p. 1)
A sincere “Thank You” goes to every board member for their
tireless work in making this St. Patrick’s Day Card/Game Party &
Luncheon a success. And to new members Kathryn Antonelli, and
Kelly Faas and her daughter, Avery, for helping with set up and the
raffle/chance prize drawings.
Our vendors were greatly appreciated for adding to the festivities:
 Marvel Ellcessor from “Miss Riley’s Cookies” (937-2392678; missrileyscookies.com);
 Deb Ross from Lighted Artwork and Scarves (937-5324451, [email protected]);
 Gail Brockman from DCWC with gently used jewelry and
books (937-898-8723).
The chefs, managers and servers of Kohler Catering at the
Presidential Banquet Center are to be applauded for preparing and
serving our delicious luncheon so efficiently and graciously. And last,
but not least, “Thank You” to our members and guest for making this a
well-attended party.
We had 15 new attendees this year. As a special “Thank You” we
had drawings for two floral arrangements donated by Oberer’s
Flowers, one for a new attendee, won by Roberta Collins, and one for
a person who brought a new attendee, won by Rhonda Harris. All of
you have helped us raise a sizeable amount of money for our
charitable grants and scholarships. These will be awarded at our
Spring Celebration Luncheon on May 6.
We hope to see you there and again at next year’s St. Patrick’s
Day Card/Game Party & Luncheon on March 10, 2018. Mark the
date on your calendar and invite your friends for a fun time!

DCWC Work with the Senior Capstone Group at
Chaminade Julienne High School
The Senior Capstone Group at Chaminade Julienne delivered 70
blankets to kids and adults at St Vincent de Paul for Valentine’s Day.
The blankets were three different sizes-small for babies, medium size
for the older kids and a larger size for the adults who are at the
Shelter. Financial support for the group's project was provided by the
Dayton Catholic Women's Club and Holy Angels School. Some of
DCWC'S Board Members helped to make the blankets also. The
board is now in process of making Easter Baskets for these homeless
children at St Vincent de Paul. Several members of DCWC toured
the St Vincent de Paul Shelter for these children and their mothers.
The leaders at St Vincent were very grateful and thankful for our help
and our presence. The Board of DCWC wishes to thank all of our
members that brought items for our Easter Baskets. God Bless you for
your generosity. Ruth Galyon
