Am I prepared for bad weather? Have I reviewed the rules for the age group I will be covering? Have I checked the website to confirm details? The day of the match Arrive at least ½ hour ahead of time Have your head show up for the game at the same time as you body. Set the tone with your behavior and dress Gauge your players and anticipate – How old are they? – Boys or girls? – What is the weather like? Inspect the field – Goals placed correctly? - Lines visible? Is it safe? The day of the match Informal pre-inspection review – Shirt-Shorts-Shin guards-Socks (outside shin guards)-Shoes – Jewelry No jewelry other than medical which must be safe – Includes piercings, “Armstrong” bracelets, watches, sunglasses No hard hairclips No hard casts Weather modifications…keep the players safe/warm/happy The day of the match Meet with the coaches – – – – Make eye contact Introduce yourself Shake hands Reinforce the rules Match time Fouls Substitutions Questions? Equipment inspection & introduction to players – Let the coach handle the problems The day of the match Start on time Coin toss – Set the tone, specifics don’t matter Game ball Right size (#3 or #4)?
