Friendship Club Planning
...With Technology

Jenison High School
What is Friendship Club?
“Growing inclusive relationships outside of the classroom”
An extracurricular club with the purpose of exploring the many different ways for
our students with disabilities to participate in Jenison High School events or
other events outside of school
The “general education” students meet once a month to plan a monthly calendar
of events
The calendar is sent home for students with disabilities and their parents to
decide what events they might be interested in attending
The events chosen are communicated with the club administrator
The technology begins....
Technology Used:
Google Classroom
School server is Gmail? Then you most likely have access to Google
Classroom.
Created a “Classroom” with all of the “general education” students that
signed up for Friendship Club at the beginning of the year.
Google Classroom is connected with student’s email addresses. If I post a
comment in the Classroom, they get an email.
Most students will also download the app to their phones, so then they
receive a notification when I post in the Classroom.
● I can post to Google Classroom either
from my computer or from an app on my
phone
● I post Friendship Club needs within the
Classroom
■ Ex: John is wanting to attend
the girls varsity soccer game
this coming Friday night. Is
anyone able to go with him?
■ Students will either respond on
the post or come and see me
throughout the day to let me
know if they are available and
planning on it.

Remind App
An app that allows you (as a teacher, coach, administrator, club leader, etc.) to communicate
through texts with groups or individual students at your school
Both you and students do not have to reveal phone numbers. You also have the ability to set
“office hours” and settings so that students can or cannot communicate with each other.
When the class is done or students no longer want to be communicated about a certain
group, the group leader may “close” the group or the student may “leave” the group.
The app also allows you to have 1-on-1 conversations with students or to create small
student groups that may need to communicate.
I post the events in my Friendship Club group in the Remind App and students can individually
respond to me if they choose to sign up for that event.
1. Download
the Remind
App to your
phone
1. Create a
“Class”
3. Once your class has been
created and your students or
club members have joined,
you may give class
announcements, group
announcements or individual
messages.
4. You may also
make
announcements
to more than
one class or
club
