Year 9 Choices 2017-2019 KS4 PATHWAYS Students will follow a recommended ‘pathway’ of study. The pathway recommended will be based on a number of factors including student attainment and effort. There are 3 pathways however there will be flexibility within each pathway. What choice do I have? Every student will follow a National Curriculum Core Programme in English Mathematics Double Science What choice do I have? Every student will study The Foundation Programme This consists of : Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE) Physical Education (P.E.) Religious Education (R.E.) Pathway 1 Students following this pathway will follow A flexible learning programme giving them an opportunity to follow a range of vocational level 1 courses offered by West Herts College or a mutually agreed work experience option A choice of two further courses from the ‘free option’ block Pathway 2 Students following this pathway will follow a Choice of history or geography Design and technology (food, graphic products, resistant materials, textiles) selecting from their current choices Plus a choice of 2 courses from the ‘free option’ block Pathway 3 Students following this pathway will study Design and technology (food, graphic products, resistant materials, textiles) Selection from their current choices A modern foreign language A choice of 2 further courses from the ‘free option’ block. ‘Free Option’ block The subjects available to students in this area include Art Business and communication systems Computer science Dance Drama Geography History Music Physical Education Triple science Pathway 1 Pathway 2 Pathway 3 National curriculum core programme English Mathematics Double science English Mathematics Double science English Mathematics Double science Foundation programme Core PE PSHE RE Core PE PSHE RE Core PE PSHE RE West Herts College Level 1 course Choose one: Geography History Choose one: French* Spanish* Choose one:** Food Graphics Resistant materials Textiles Choose one:** Food Graphics Resistant materials Textiles Choice 1 Choice 2 This counts for 2 option choices Choice 3&4 Choose two from the following: Art and design Business and communications systems Computer science – must have at least a level 5a in maths and science currently Dance Drama Geography History Music Physical education Triple science – must have at least a level 6b in science currently * With language choices, you must continue with the language you have studied at KS3 **For technology choices, you must continue with one of the two that you studied in Year 9 Russell Group Universities Dates to Remember Thursday 26th January Year 9 Parent Consultation Evening and Option talk. Friday 28th January until Wed 8th February Mr Dodd, Mrs Wright (careers) and Mrs Jennings available to answer any further questions Friday 10th March 2017 deadline for choices forms to be returned to form tutors.
