TRAINING COURSE IN BRIEF
The training course "Our Margin for Theater – Creating theater productions by and for
young people to combat marginalization and poverty" consisted of three phases:
• Preparation May-July 2014: To prepare, participants reflected about the lessons they
learned when organizing their own humanitarian projects and they prepared
presentations about their projects.
• Training Course "Our Margin for Theater – Creating theater productions by and for
young people to combat marginalization and poverty" August 17-24, 2014:
Participants exchanged experiences, acquired intercultural skills, learned about
theater productions and each national team drafted a theater project.
• Fall and winter 2014-2015: Creation, promotion and presentation of the theater
productions drafted during the training by participants in their organizations in 10
different countries.
The Training Course united 30 participants from ten different countries and focused on
theater productions by and for young people. The interactive working methods required
active participation. The first two days were dedicated to team building and intercultural
learning. We also discussed the problems young people in our different communities
and countries face and the types of marginalization present. The third day focused
especially on participants' experiences with humanitarian and inclusion projects. At
Kreativhaus and with two theater experts, participants then learned about verbal and
non-verbal theater methods, fundraising and public relations. They also developed their
own theater projects, enabling them to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice,
be creative, and add their own unique perspective to the theater productions.
Our partner Kreativhaus provided a trainer and welcomed the participants for a half-day.
The other trainer was the president of PTPI’s Belgrade, Serbia Chapter.

It was very motivating and enriching for us to meet and exchange experiences. We
learned more about one another’s countries and cultures, discussed how we can avoid
prejudice and discrimination, and found out about our diverse humanitarian projects. In
addition, we learned about theater productions.
Our nine theater productions drafts promote inclusive activities by and for young people
and aim for combatting marginalization and poverty:
• PTPI's Oroslavje, Croatia Student Chapter plans to work on a drama play called
"Poor-Rich" with their local community and high school students.
• The German participants plan to cooperate with the members of PTPI's Berlin
Student Chapter to implement a theater workshop and possibly create a theater
production for or with refugees.
• The group from Israel plans to work with high school students of the Arab and Jewish
sector in Israel on the tragic comedy, "Your land is my land," in order to start a
dialogue and raise awareness for the possibility of mutual life.
• PTPI's Klina, Kosovo Student Chapter plans to raise awareness for protecting the
environment among children ages 7-9. For their educational verbal theater play,
they will work with animators from youth groups and schools and perform in the
local cultural house.
• PTPI's Tangier, Morocco Chapter plans to create an interactive theater project with
young adults and teenagers focusing on social and political issues (e.g. gender,
extremism, elections…). The play will be performed in public schools and in
language schools.
• The group from Spain in collaboration with volunteers from their local community,
plans to create a shadow theater play about gay marriage.
• PTPI's Plovdiv, Bulgaria Chapter plans to work with members of the "Mothers against
Drugs" Association on a play called "Everything is possible."
• PTPI's Skopje, Macedonia Chapter plans to work with high-school and university
students, and the drama club "S'klet". The play called “a message for…” will
focus on youth problems in the modern Macedonian society such as depression,
anorexia, AIDS, drug and gambling addiction, and relations between Macedonian
and Albanian students.
• The group from Romania plans to work with children and their parents on an
experimental interactive theater play called "Who am I? Who are you? Who are
we?" They will work in cooperation with "Zamolxes" foundation and school No. 3
from Campina about tolerance and solidarity at school.
• PTPI's Belgrade, Serbia Chapter and OKO plan to work on a dramatic comedy play
about intergenerational solidarity, which would be performed in the senior’s
house of the municipality of Pallula, Belgrade. The aim would be to promote
solidarity, volunteering, and non-violent communication among young people and
to address actual problems of marginalized groups.
