Dear Parents - Montessori Academy

Dear Parents,
Welcome to Montessori Academy’s Little House. We have a great team and are looking
forward to a wonderful year filled with many fun learning experiences! This letter has
been prepared to assist you in familiarizing yourself with the Little House routine and
procedures.
Morning Arrival: Upon arrival each day you will complete the sign-in sheet with your full
signature and place your child’s Montessori bag on his or her hook in the bag room.
Please make sure that your Montessori bag contains at least two (2) full changes of
labeled clothing and one (1) extra pair of shoes. When signing in, please indicate one of
the following for your child’s lunch:
“yes” if your child needs a hot lunch
“box” if your child brings his/her lunch
“no” if your child will not be eating lunch
If “no”, and your child will be picked up early for an appointment, please let us know the
time.
If you wish for your child to have a hot lunch, but you will be arriving after 9:00 a.m., you
must call the office to order your child’s lunch. After 9:00 a.m, you will need to bring a
lunch for your child. Healthy eating is encouraged during school time. We request that
no cookies, candy, pudding, sugary drinks or sodas be sent in your child’s lunch.
Nap Time: Please make sure your child’s clean cot sheet and a small blanket are in their
Montessori bag each Monday, and that all blankets are labeled. Your child’s sheet and
blanket will be used throughout the week and sent home each Friday.
Snack: We generally have snack between 9:15 and 9:45. Each child is assigned a snack
day during the month. The snack calendar will be available on our website,
www.MontessoriMontgomery.com, and posted in our classroom, to let you know when
your child’s snack day is. Snack preparation begins at 8:15. Please bring the number of
snacks indicated at the bottom of the of the snack calendar. If your child will not be
attending school on his/her snack day, please make arrangements to deliver the snack
prior to that day. DHR requires that only 100% fruit juice be served. Some suggestions for
snack are cheese & crackers, ham & cheese, applesauce, yogurt, or any kind of fresh
fruit. Please see the snack requirements sheet in the welcome packet for additional
snack suggestions. No sweets please.
Monthly Supplies are due by the 15th of each month: You can save time and money by
letting us do the shopping for you. We can bill your account $15 for this service. If you
still wish to purchase them yourself please be sure to initial the yellow supply list located in
the bag room when you deliver your supplies.
Medication/Bug Spray/ Sunscreen: If you would like for a Little House teacher to
administer any medication, we must have a signed and dated medication form. The
forms are located in a pink folder on the bottom shelf in the bag room as well as our
website. If you need assistance with locating the forms, please do not hesitate to ask a
teacher. Due to DHR regulations, we must have an updated form every 7 days, even for
on-going medication. Please note that this includes over the counter medications,
prescription medication, topical creams (such as diaper rash medicine), bug spray, and
sunscreen. A separate form is required for each medication. Please apply bug spray
and sunscreen before your morning arrival since we are already on the playground.
Clothing: Please remember that your child will participate in a variety of activities during
the school day, including painting and gluing. We try to use non-staining paint, as well as
smocks, but sometimes stains occur. Please dress accordingly. We ask that if your child
wears an all one piece outfit to school that it snaps only at the bottom. Please do not
allow your child to wear sandals to school. The children get rocks in their sandals which is
very uncomfortable.
Diapers: You may send a whole package of diapers or enough for a few days. Children
are encouraged to go from diapers to underwear; therefore we would rather not use pull
ups. However, if you do use them please get the brand that Velcro on the side.
Volunteers: If you would like to volunteer in the classroom or you have a special talent,
please contact your child’s teacher. We would be happy to have you visit us and
contribute to our learning environment.
We like to make the children feel at home while they are at school. One way that we do
this is by surrounding them with pictures. Please send a 4x6 family picture in a no-glass
frame (we place the pictures on shelves in the classroom). You may send a picture of
the whole family or of your child along with another family member or pet. They are
always so proud of their pictures and love to share them with their friends.
Please feel free to contact Melissa if you have any questions. You may leave a message
at the office, 262.8685, and she will get in touch with you as soon she is available. Don’t
forget to mark your calendars for the “Parent Education” night as we would love for
everyone to come and join us in learning about all of the exciting things that we are
doing at school. We are so happy to have your child participate in our Little House
toddler program. We look forward to sharing this experience with you.
Sincerely,
