Quarter 3 Failure Is Not An Option Project – 6th Grade ELA DUE: Wednesday, April 19, 2017 *NO LATE PACKETS WILL BE ACCEPTED* The Failure is Not An Option Project (FNO Project) is an opportunity for any student to either demonstrate or enrich their understanding of the material studied during a particular marking period by completing an additional and alternative form of assessment. You must meet the following criteria to complete the FNO Project: 1. Is in danger of not getting a passing grade or 2. Passing and want to enrich your learning. 3. Must not have an attendance rate below 80%. Those students who are failing and successfully complete the Failure is Not An Option Project may receive up to 10 points for the marking period and only receive a grade of 65. If you in danger of failing and do not complete the FNO Project you will receive a comment on your report card stating you were given an opportunity to do the FNO Project and did not complete it successfully. Any student who is passing with a 65 or above may complete the FNO Project in order to enrich their learning and receive up to 5 additional points on their quarter grade. The highest grade you can receive is 98%. Reminders: There is a reading project and a writing project to be completed. Please read all directions carefully before you begin! Reading: 1. Create a decorative timeline from Macbeth. You must include: A list of 12 major events that happened throughout the story Quotes from the text (*Must be taken from Shakespeare’s text*) Illustrations/pictures OR 2. Students can work on this project to examine the play through visual media. You can offer the following possible options for them to create: A poster for the play Maps of the areas in the play A sculpture, painting or illustration that deals with a scene of the student's choice Original costume design Included in your visual representation should be a brief summary and explanation describing your work. *Use your imagination while working on this project to create an original piece of work. You will be graded on effort and shouldn't just throw something together at the last minute. Writing: 3. Use the template given below to write a biographical poem for 2 of the following characters from Macbeth. Note: Since it is 2 separate characters, you will need 2 poems total. You may use a dictionary and thesaurus to vary vocabulary. For example: manipulative, ambitious, impressionable The characters you may use are: 1. Macbeth 2. Lady Macbeth 3. Banquo 4. Duncan 5. Doctor’s Perspective - Write a journal entry from the doctor’s perspective reflecting on his visit to the Macbeth house when Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking. (Act 5 Scene 1) 2. Malcolm’s perspective- Write a journal entry from Malcolm’s perspective (after he becomes king) reflecting on the events of the play. 3. Acceptance Speech - Write a short acceptance speech for Malcolm as he takes the throne. Have him cheer the country, remember the tragedies, ask for the thanes to come back, etc.
