Adapted Athletics Brochure

Buffalo High School Student/Athletes are
given the opportunity to earn a varsity
letter, but must follow all school district
academic and athletic eligibility rules to
participate.
We are grateful to Adapted Athletics
because it has given our son, Billy, the
opportunity to participate in sporting
activities with his classmates.

The social and team building aspect of
adapted sports has been wonderful for
Kate.
Buffalo School District 877 offers a
variety of adapted athletic activities for
students in grades 7-12. These sport teams
are designed to accommodate students
that may not be able to compete on a
regular High School athletic team.
Buffalo has participated in the following
sports for students who are cognitively
impaired.

“I am very proud to be part of the Adapted
Athletics Program at Buffalo High School.
I take great joy in watching our athletes
learn, compete, and have fun.
The
memories and connections these athletes
make each season will last them a lifetime.
The program shares that “Bison Pride”
that means so much to our school.” ---Tom
Bauman, Activities Director
GO BISON!!!
This was Lindsay’s first year in Adapted
Athletics and it was tremendous! The
team was very welcoming and safe for
Lindsay. She developed new friendships
and renewed old ones. Practicing with
the team built Lindsay’s confidence in
her abilities.
She really enjoyed
competing as part of the team!

“Happy are those who dream dreams and
are ready to pay the price to make them
come true.”
All students must follow specific team
guidelines established before the season
begins in order to participate.
These
guidelines are to be distributed during the
pre-season Activities meeting. Coaches will
coach, and parents will support their athletes
and the team.
Our program is committed to the same high ideals
as the other athletic teams for Buffalo High School.
Students will need to have all of their required
forms, medical information and activity fee on file
before the season starts. Parents and Athletes need
to attend the pre-season Activity meeting organized
by BHS Activity Department. Each athlete and
parents is expected to honor the sport and the
following code of conduct:
“Let me win,
But if I cannot win
Let me be brave in the
attempt.”
Sportsmanship
*I will practice good sportsmanship
*I will act in ways that bring respect to me, my
coaches and my team.
*I will not use bad language, swear or insult other
people.
*I will not fight with other athletes, coaches or
officials.
Training and Competition
*I will train regularly.
*I will learn and follow the rules of my sport.
*I will listen to my coaches and the officials, and
ask questions if I do not understand.
*I will always try my best during training and
competition.
Responsibility for My Actions
*I will not make inappropriate, or unwanted
physical, verbal or sexual advance.
*I will not drink alcohol, smoke or take illegal
drugs during activity seasons.
*I will learn the rules of each sport.
Each athlete understands that if they do not obey
this code of conduct, they will not be allowed to
participate on the team. Coaches and parents will
work together to make certain that the athletes are
working towards their goal.
“Strength is the product
of struggles.”
