Irish Student Nominations
IMPORTANT NOTES !!
To be considered by the Council of University Sports Administrators in Ireland (CUSAI) to partake in a World University Championship
in 2006, Irish student athletes / players must –
1.
Be eligible to partake in a World University Championship, meaning
1.1
They must meet FISU’s regulations with regard to eligibility – these regulations are listed in a separate section below.

They must meet CUSAI’s regulations with regard to eligibility – these regulations are listed in a separate section below.
2.
FULLY complete (by COMPUTER) a Student Nomination Form for their sport (see subsequent pages) – a soft / email copy
(MS Word format) of this form is available from the appointed Team Manager / Coach or from the CUSAI Office.
3.
Print off a hardcopy of the completed Student Nomination Form, sign the form themselves and have the relevant section signed
and stamped by the Sports Officer / Athletic Union President of their university / college / institute.
4.
FULLY complete (in BLOCK CAPITALS) “Section 1” of a hardcopy of the FISU Certificate of Academic Eligibility (see separate
document).
5.
Have their university / college / institute Registrar’s Office complete, sign and stamp “Section 2” of the same hardcopy of the
FISU Certificate of Academic Eligibility.
6.
Leave “Section 3” of the same hardcopy of the FISU Certificate of Academic Eligibility BLANK. The CUSAI Office shall
complete Section 3 upon return of this form to the CUSAI Office.
7.
Return the signed and stamped hardcopy of the Student Nomination Form and the FISU Certificate of Academic Eligibility,
along with 2 (two) passport sized photos and 2 clear photocopies of the main / photo page of their Irish passport to the
CUSAI Office on or before the CLOSING DATE indicated.
8.
Return an unsigned and unstamped soft / email copy of the Student Nomination Form to [email protected] on or before
the CLOSING DATE indicated.
OTHER NOTES !!
1.
Nominations shall NOT be accepted by fax.
2.
Nominations received after the closing date indicated shall NOT be accepted.
3.
Incomplete nominations may be returned.
4.
Submitting a nomination to CUSAI for consideration, does not guarantee that a student athlete / player shall be ratified to
compete at a Championship.
5.
Shortly after the closing date, CUSAI shall consider all complete nominations received from eligible Irish student athletes /
players. CUSAI shall ratify only those deemed suitably qualified to compete at the Championship. CUSAI’s decision on all
ratification issues is final.
6.
The CUSAI Office shall subsequently notify the appointed Team Manager / Coach of those ratified (and not ratified) to compete.
7.
Each competitor ratified by CUSAI to partake in the Championship will be asked to make a personal contribution (amount to be
determined) towards the cost of his or her participation. This amount MUST be paid in full to CUSAI BEFORE departure to the
competition.
8.
Further information concerning selection procedures will be available at a later date.

Please retain copies of all forms for your own reference.

Irish Student Nominations
FISU ELIGIBILITY REGULATIONS
5.2 Participation.
5.2.1
Only the following may participate as competitors in a FISU Championship:
(a)
(b)

students who are officially registered for and pursuing a full-time course of study at a university or similar institute
whose status as a university is recognised by the appropriate national academic authority of their country;
former students of the institutions mentioned in (a) who have obtained their academic degree or diploma in the year
preceding the event.
All competitors must satisfy the following conditions:

be a national of the country they represent;
be at least 17 and less that 28 years of age on January 1st in the year of the event.
CUSAI ELIGIBILITY REGULATIONS
CUSAI currently applies the following regulations (in addition to the FISU regulations) when selecting representative teams and
individuals to participate in FISU competitions:

Irish students studying abroad are eligible to compete for Ireland provided that they satisfy FISU Regulations 5.2.1 and 5.2.3.
Students attending courses franchised out from an institution as defined in FISU Regulations 5.2.1 are eligible for selection
providing they also satisfy Regulation 5.2.3.
Former students competing under FISU Regulation 5.2.1 (b) will only be considered if the competition is held within 12 months, to
date, from day of last graduation.
Normally, students must have presented themselves at the most recent examination that is set during the course of study.
Irish-based students must have represented their university / college / institute in their respective sport at intervarsity league and /
or championship level.

Each student seeking ratification by CUSAI to compete for Ireland at a FISU Championship must be an Irish passport holder.
Irish-based students do not necessarily have to be attending an institution affiliated to the Colleges and Universities Sports
Association of Ireland (CUSAI) to be considered for ratification by CUSAI.
