Ontario's Cap and Trade Program:
How Will it Impact Your Business?
The Ontario Chamber of
Commerce (OCC) has been
your voice to government on behalf of the province’s
business community. While government has proceeded
with the implementation of cap and trade, the OCC
continues to work with our membership to try and educate
businesses about what this will mean for your bottomline.
We are also engaged in an ongoing dialogue with the
provincial government to try and ensure the new program
has as limited an impact on Ontario’s competitiveness as
possible.

Policy Alert – MPs must be told that
taxing employerpaid health benefits
will harm middle class Canadians
The federal government is
considering taxing employer
paid health and dental
benefits. In addition to hundreds or thousands of dollars
that would be added to Canadians’ tax bills, it also means
that many employers will no longer provide coverage to
employees. When a similar tax was introduced in Quebec,
20% of employers dropped health and dental benefits for
employees. Studies suggest the removal of this tax benefit
across the board could result in a decrease of 50% of
small firms who will be able to offer health benefits.
Please tell your MPs that this move would harm the
people the federal government promised to champion; the
middle class. Encourage your members to do so as well.
