Q: What is the best way to do an address search?
Since text fields such as the Street Name field are exact match fields, meaning that Matrix will only
find matches if you enter the text exactly as the list agent did when inputting the listing, it is best to use
the asterisk (*) as a wildcard. This is especially true for those addresses with multiple words in the
street name.
There is a Search widget on the Matrix homepage (not to be confused with the Search tab at the top of
the screen, in between Home and My Matrix) that has all of the individual fields that make up a
complete address- this is the best place to perform an address search.
You can enter the asterisk before the word, after the word, or on both sides of the word.
Q: Why does the Full display print on 2 pages instead of one?
Recently, both the Agent and Client Full displays were modified to make them easier to read and
provide more consistency with other displays on the system. The font size was increased in response to
many complaints that the text was too small and difficult to read. Additionally, a map was added and
the layout of some of the fields was changed to match that of the Flyer displays.
Even prior to these modifications, the Full display was always intended to be a 2 page report. There may
have been some instances where a listing would squeeze onto one page if the list agent had entered the
bare minimum of information during listing input, but this was the exception rather than the rule. As
the name of the report suggests, the Full Display (2 pages) provides the user the greatest amount of
listing information available, and it is simply not possible for it to fit onto one page in a visibly practical
manner.
The Agent and Client Flyer displays are scaled down versions of the Full Display and are designed to fit
on one page. These displays were designed to closely resemble the Agent and Public Book reports from
our old system.
Q: Why does it take so many steps when I want to print listings?
In response to numerous complaints that printing is more complicated than it was with our old system,
we have enabled the Auto Narrow feature in Matrix. In the past, if you had a group of listings and
wanted to view or print only a few of them, you would have to select them, then go down to the Refine
button and click Narrow to get rid of the ones you did not want to print. Then you could switch to a
different display or simply click on the Print button.
Now, with Auto Narrow enabled, you can simply select the listings you want to work with and then
either switch to a different display or go right to Print. You no longer need to go to Refine> Narrow to
eliminate the listings you did not want to work with.
If you have selected several listings from a larger group to view in another display, and then need to get
back all of your search results, simply click on the Original Results link in the top left corner. This will
show you the original group of search results (the listings you selected will still have checks in their
checkboxes).
The top five functions that users were unaware of:
1. Parcel Mapping- when you are viewing a map, there is
an icon in the upper right corner (to the left of the
crosshairs) that allows you to display several different
map layers.
2. Hit Counters- accessible through the My Listings widget (or by going to My Matrix> My Listings),
Hit Counters provides insight into the total reach of your listings. Hits are calculated based on
seven categories, including Client Views, Favorites, Auto Emails, and Agent Rejected.
3. Exporting listings to a spreadsheet- if you prefer to work with listing data in a spreadsheet
format, Matrix allows you to create your own custom spreadsheets for each of the property
types, as well as for tax data, agent or office rosters, and more. Create custom exports through
the My Matrix> Settings menu.
4. Creating Mailing Labels from the tax database- you can print Owner or Occupant labels directly
from the results of a tax search. After you select the properties for which you’d like labels, click
Print and then go to the Additional Reports tab.
5. Share your listings- generate a URL for your on market listings that you can post to Facebook or
other websites. Go to your My Listings widget, select an Active or On Market category, put a
check in front of the listing you want to share, then click the Share button. It will generate a URL
that you can then embed in another website.
