2ND GRADE (ENTERING 3RD GRADE) June Monday Tuesday Wednesday 5 Plan on logging all your summer reading beginning today. Read for 20 minutes and write the title- author-amount of time read. 6 Create an imaginary animal and write about it in your journal. 7 Word GameCreate as many words as you can from the word Canteloupe 8 Make a list of different zoo animals and put them in ABC order. 9 Write about a city you want to visit. Include a list of activities you want to do there. 12 Ride a bike, skateboard, or walk, and make a list of the nouns you see. (people, places, or things) 13 What is your favorite movie? Why? Write at least 4 sentences. 14 Draw a picture and label the parts. 15 Choose 10 adjectives (describing words) and write antonyms (opposites). Example: large-small 16 Make a list of words with the added suffix –ed. (for example- play— played) 19 Create a sno-cone stand menu in your journal. 20 Spend the whole day without the use of technology and write about something you did in your journal. 21 Read for 20 minutes today 22 Write a short play for you and some friends to act out. 23 Plan a backyard camping adventure. (How are you alike? Different?) today. Thursday Friday 2ND GRADE (ENTERING 3RD GRADE) Monday 3 Word Game: Make a list of adjectives (describing words) to describe fireworks. Write them in your journal. 10 Make a collage of a book you have read this summer. 17 Write a letter to your best friend. 24 Play a card game with your family today. 31 Word Game: In your journal write all the words you know that have the er, ir or ur spelling. July Tuesday 4 Listen to mom or dad read a story. Wednesday 5 Listen to some oldies music today. Write 4 sentences in your journal about how it makes you feel. Thursday 6 What does the word assure mean? Look it up. Write a sentence using the word. Friday 7 If you could have one wish granted what would you wish for and why? 11 Write as many words for the word pretty that you can come up with in your journal today. Get help from others for a more complete list. 18 Read a non-fiction book today and write down 3 facts you learned in your journal. 12 Eat a peach (or other fruit) and use adjectives to describe it. Write in your journal. 13 Read for 20 minutes today. 19 Read for 20 minutes today. 20 Play hangman with your family. 14 Go into a room in your house and write all the nouns you see in your journal. (3 total sentences) 28 Make a list of all the different uses for a rubberband. 2ND GRADE (ENTERING 3RD GRADE) August Monday Tuesday 1 Read for 20 minutes today. Wednesday 2 Draw the setting of the book you read yesterday in your journal and label it. 7 Use the homophones to, too, and two. Write a sentence for each. 8 Demonstrate a random act of kindness. List 5 adjectives to describe how this made you feel. 9 Today is National S’mores Day. Ask an adult to help you make this treat. 14 Count how many reading activities you did this summer. Write the number in your notebook. What was your favorite reading activity? 15 First day of school! Thursday 3 Try to go the whole day without using the word awesome. Can you come up with synonyms for the word? (Words that mean the same thing as awesome) 10 Write a letter to your new teacher telling her about yourself. Friday 4 Write 6 verbs in your journal and add a suffix to each. (for example: s, es, ing, ed) Play-playing Jump- jumped 11 “I knew there was a problem when I saw the look on mom’s face…” Finish the story (write at least 3-4 sentences.)
