• What do you need to know?
• You do not have to be a soccer star to be a good coach.
It just takes common sense & commitment to be there for
the players and to communicate with parents.
• Being on time is essential as all games begin on the
hour with a 10-minute discretion period at the start.
•All of our games are officiated by certified referees and
should be respected. Their calls are final. All of our
volunteer coaches have to abide by the MYSL Code of
Conduct. Disciplinary measures will result if anyone
argues with the referee after being warned. Abusive
behaviour, gestures, etc. are not going to be accepted.

• You should get to know your Convener. If you have any
problems that you cannot deal with, your Convener can
offer guidance. If the Convener cannot deal with the
issue(s), it will be escalated upwards to the Head Coach.
• A detailed template will be sent to you to give you more
helpful tips on communicating with parents and how to
make the season easy and fun.
•Uniforms consisting of a shirt, shorts, and socks will be
delivered to Olive Grove School and packed in a
Coaches’ bag for each team with all the tools you will
need. Please ensure that you take care of the contents
as the balls and practice cones are to be returned at the
end of the season.

• Team lists will be sent to all coaches by Friday, May 8th
via e-mail
•Uniforms, bags, etc. to be picked up by coaches from
their Conveners here at 12 p.m. next Sunday, May 10.
• If you cannot be there, you need to arrange to get them
from your Convener.
• coaches need to touch base with their parents right
away via e-mail and phone to introduce themselves and
communicate the guidelines as well as to inform them of
where to get the uniforms (suggestion – get them to
come on Sunday at 1 p.m.)

REMINDER – Make sure that you have signed in
the attendance sheet and make any corrections
if our records contain the wrong information.
Always remember the ‘first’ rule of the MYSL –
All participants shall respect each other and be
courteous to all. A close “second” rule is that all
players shall wear protective shin pads beneath
their supplied socks or they do not play.
We encourage equal playing time – * Playoffs.

Practices
• We do not have compulsory practices but it is
encouraged. For U6 and U8, 20-30 minutes
before the game is great. It gets kids there on
time (this is always a problem) and you can go
over some fundamental skills like dribbling,
passing, and soccer concepts, etc.
• For older divisions, coaches may want to do an
hour practice before games or a different day if
you can get your parents to all agree.

We are here to have fun while helping foster
soccer skills in our youth within an Islamic
Environment. We also have a division that
caters towards adults so if you haven’t
registered, do so ASAP!
We have tried touch upon a few items but cannot go
through everything on coaching, the dynamics of teambuilding, and creating good relations with your parents.
We will be having another session next Sunday from 10
am to 12 followed by the distribution of the uniforms, etc.
