First 6 weeks of School
 Our
main focus is to learn
how to be in “Big Kid” school.

Green Communication Folders
These will go home daily. Please sign
and return back to teacher.
 There may be papers that are sent from
the office and the wonderful work from
your child.
 This is also a way to communicate how
your child’s behavior was that day.
 Please send any money or notes (not
email!!) of any dismissal changes or
doctor’s notes in these folders.

Behavior Notices
Sparkle- when a student goes above
and beyond teacher expectations
 Green- when a student follows the
directions the first time the teacher tells
them
 Yellow- a student has been given a
warning/s to follow directions
 Red- several warnings/talkings to follow
rules/directions. This might also result in
a phone call to parents or office referral.

Math Curriculum
 We
will be working on adding and
subtracting up to 20 with
manipulatives.
 Counting forward/back and
recognizing numbers 0-20
 Counting by ones and tens to a
minimum of 100 and a maximum to
120.
 Personal Finance
 2D/3D shapes
Language Arts




Phonemic Awareness- blending,
adding/deleting sounds, listening and playing
with sounds
Reading- minimum to DRA level 3 but our goal
is to a level 8
Writing- by the end of the year they should be
able to write at least one complete sentence
with correct spacing, punctuation,
capitalization
Learning to read sight words- a minimum of 6
sets
**Report Cards will be sent out every 12 weeks
Homework/Purple Folder
 We
will focus more on reading and
doing activities as a family.
 There will also be a Reading Log to
record the books read and minutes
spent reading together.
 Sight Words (once we introduce these to
the kids)- there are a minimum of 6 sets.
When the student can read all the words
on the given set independently, they will
be given the next set.

Absences/Attendance
Please make sure to have your child in
class no later than 8:00, they are
considered tardy after that.
 5 tardies = 1 absence
 Tardies are considered arriving late and
leaving early (before 3:30).
 If your child is absent please send a
note or doctor’s note in your child’s
green communication folder upon
returning to school.

Dress Code
Shirts- collared, solid or striped, must cover
stomach when hands are raised
 Shirt logos must be no bigger than a credit
card.
 Pants- students may wear jeans without
rips or holes, pants may be any color, logos
no bigger than a credit card,
 Shorts/Skirts/Skorts- must come to knee
length, (please put shorts under girls skirts)
 Shoes- no flip-flops or backless sandals, no
Heelys skate shoes

Dismissal Procedures
Car Riders- You must have car tag every
time you pick up. If you don’t have it you
will be asked to park and sign your child
out in the front office. Let the teacher or
office know if you lost it and need another
one. Please stay in your car while picking
up.
 Walkers- You must have car/walker tag
every time to pick up, teacher will dismiss
at the west side of the school, at the gate
area. Do not call students to come to you,
teacher will dismiss your child to you.
 Bus/Daycare- will be dismissed to their
appropriate bus with teacher supervision.

Breakfast/Lunch








Breakfast time is from 7:20-8:00
Lunch time is from 11:10-11:40
Meals cost $2.40
Please remember to keep money on your child’s
account. If paying online it takes 24 hrs for it to hit
their account.
If your child has no money they will be given an
alternative lunch that consist of two slices of bread
with a slice of cheese, and a small carton of juice.
Parents are allowed to come sit for lunch only on
Open Lunch dates. Look for these dates in the green
communication folder.
Lunch menus are available online.
Extra Snacks/Ice Cream- Ice cream bars are $1.00
and the cones are $1.25, other snacks range from 50
cents to a dollar. Parents can fill out a form that helps
limit the snack buying.
Field Trips/Parties/Volunteers





We will be going on one field trip. Date and place
are TBA.
We are limited to chaperones so it will be based
on a first come-first serve basis.
Parties: Thanksgiving, Winter, Valentines, End of
the Year.
Volunteers- Make sure you fill out a background
check with a copy of your D.L. at the beginning of
the year. This will need to be done every year, it
does not roll over to the next school year. Please
plan on helping if you come to any party. With
kindergarten we need all hands on deck.
Room parents- need to be available and flexible
for every party and attend every party meeting.
Please let the teacher know if you are interested in
being a room parent.
P.E./Nurse Visits
Please make sure to send your child with tennis
shoes on their P.E. days. Check with your
teacher for their P.E. days.
 Do not send meds, this includes cough drops,
with your child. The parent must provide a
doctor’s not to the nurse and the nurse will give
the meds to the student.
 If your child goes home with a fever they cannot
return to school until they are fever free, without
meds, for 24 hours.

