Glenbrae Children’s Centre April 2017 Dear Parent, It’s hard to believe we are already at the last term in the school year, but we have a busy, fun-filled time planned from now until the summer holidays within the nursery. Staff News A warm welcome to Louise Campbell, who is our new Early Stages Teacher in the Butterfly Room. Jacqueline Coombes, our support assistant in the Butterfly room is currently working at Hillend Nursery and Rebecca Loughrey will cover her post here. Fairtrade Thank you everyone that supported our Fairtrade shop. We raised a total of £314.10. Red Nose Day A big thank you to children and parents for taking part in A total of £ 117.00 was raised. Green Week – 8th – 12th May 2017 The children will be participating in Eco related activities each day such as junk modelling, recycling, healthy eating and gardening. We are also taking part in the National Spring Clean campaign on Friday 12th May and would appreciate your support by taking part with your child in our outdoor tidy up. Eco School News We are delighted to announce that the nursery has gained the Eco Schools Green Flag Award. This award recognises the hard work children, parents and staff have been doing to reduce waste, promote healthy lifestyle choices and develop the nursery grounds. Hopefully our flag will arrive soon. Eat Well Feel Better Julie has confirmed dates and times with parents who will be attending the cookery classes. The first class will begin on Thursday 27th April 9.30m – 11.30 am. REQUEST FOR ALL PARENTS th Famiy Fun Day – Friday 19 May 2017 Parents are invited to come along with their child between 10.00 am and 2.00pm to take part in a fun filled day of activities such as face painting, bouncy castle and a visit from The Animal Man. More information to follow. If your child is going to be off nursery for any reason could you please phone and let us know. This also applies to children in the Out of School Care as it is important that we are aware of which children we need to pick up and saves other children waiting around while we try to locate your child. 0-2 Learning The weather didn’t dampen the outdoor Stay and Play sessions. Parents actively participated in their children’s learning by helping to plant strawberries, take part in an Easter egg hunt and explore the outdoor environment. This term the song of the month will be Baa Baa Black Sheep. 2-3 Learning The children have been learning about spring and nature as it wakens from its winter sleep. They have been caring for our plants and wildlife in order to make sure they have enough food. All children and their parents had the opportunity to plant pansies and potatoes in our nursery garden as part of our Stay and Play sessions. This term the children will be learning about spring through stories, songs and rhyme and will also learn to take care of the nurseries own baby chicks. More information to follow. 3-5 Learning The children in the Butterfly Room enjoyed participating in the ‘Celebration of Food’ Event with their parents and staff, making homemade pizzas and fruit kebabs. Some children attended the Science Fayre at Notre Dame High School with their parents and had the opportunity to explore a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths activities. This term the children will be learning to recognise rhyming words, 2D and 3D shapes and will also be developing their pre & early writing skills. More information to follow Graduation Day – Friday 23rd June. More information to follow Out of School Care Well done to all that took part in the Port Glasgow Bulb Show. Pictures are now displayed in the OOSC room, so feel free to come and have a look at all the excellent work. Now that we are into spring, the children have been enjoying lots of outdoor play in the garden with activities such as tennis, badminton and football. We now have a planning wall in the playroom and the children are actively involved in planning activities on a daily basis. Last day of term – Thursday 29th June.
