WOODFIELD SOCIAL AND SPORTS CLUB LTD TENNIS SECTION Woodfield Avenue, Penn, Wolverhampton WV4 4AD 01902 341335 Welcome to Woodfield Tennis Section! Who are we? Woodfield Tennis Section aims to cater for players of all ages and ability, whilst trying to achieve a good quality of play. The philosophy of the club is for informality and fun and to encourage as many people as possible to play. Based at Woodfield Social and Sports Club, we have 4 excellent floodlit artificial grass courts and use of the bar (with a pool table, snooker tables, darts and Sky TV) to help us recover afterwards. How do I get involved? If you are new to the area or haven’t played for many years then why not turn up on a Wednesday evening at 6.30pm for a mix-in night? We do our best to be friendly and welcoming and you are welcome to pop along twice for free before deciding whether you want to join our club or not. If you want to chat before you pop along then give any of the committee a ring (see over the page), we will be pleased to speak to you. How do I become a member? Membership runs from 1st April to 31st March each year and we have a range of memberships depending on age and student status. You may even wish your membership to include the other activities on offer at the club, such as bowls and table tennis. Use of the 5 excellent full size snooker tables is included in the cost of your tennis membership; you only have to pay for the lights. See further down for the membership costs. Do I need to book a court? No! Once you are a member you can just turn up and play. You may wish to check beforehand whether there is a league match taking place – these are usually on the lower courts on a Friday evening and would obviously take precedence. Our mix-in nights are: Monday (men only) – 6.30pm Wednesday (mixed) – 6.30pm Can I bring along non-members? As mentioned above, non-members can come along to up to two mix-in evenings before deciding whether to join. If you want to bring a non-member for a game at any other time a guest rate of £5 per hour applies. If there are members already on the courts then they would take preference over non-members. Are there any competitions I can play in? Whilst we want to have fun we also want to appeal to your competitive nature so we organise club competitions throughout both the summer and winter. These are in both a singles and doubles format and are played over various dates during each season, with your best 2 or 3 scores counting so it doesn’t matter if you have a bad match or cannot make certain dates. The prizes are significant! What about league tennis? We currently have one team in the Staffordshire league and we play various fixtures both home and away throughout the summer. We will consider anyone for the team, just come down and play and show you are interested! Can I get Wimbledon tickets? Woodfield is allocated a number of tickets to Wimbledon each year and a draw is done each spring for tickets. You need to be a member of Woodfield and a member of British Tennis to be eligible for the draw. Is there any coaching? We do not currently have a resident coach but we are able to put you in touch with a coach. There is usually junior coaching for ages 5 upwards on Saturday mornings and occasionally after school. Club Rules The Section has very few rules and those we do have are primarily designed to protect the playing surface. Thus we ask people to be particularly careful about their footwear, preferably using proper tennis shoes but at least wearing nonmarking trainers. Please be careful not to spill food or drinks on the court. Do not take footballs or bikes onto the courts. The courts have a combination lock and the code is changed regularly – we ask members to not pass this onto non-members.
