Alternative Altarena returns for a third season of original work. The second show of this special
season is the musical Castle Happy, book and lyrics by John Freed and music and lyrics by
Jeff Dunn and directed by Clay David.
Movie stars set on the stage of intrigue defines the season’s second original work Castle Happy.
The story is about the high-stakes love shared among Hollywood elite in the sky palace of Hearst
Castle. The characters of William Randolph Hearst, Marion Davie, Errol Flynn, Bette Davis and
family members mingle at a Halloween party in 1938 and romance is on the high burner. Events
suddenly escalate once Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds broadcast is heard over the radio,
inciting panic and confusion for partygoers.
Castle Happy actors/singers perform locally at many Bay Area theaters such as Lamplighters,
Island City Opera, 42nd Street Moon, New Conservatory Theatre, Theater Rhinoceros, Marin
Opera, Pocket Opera, Center Repertory Theater, Broadway by the Bay as well as other national
theaters. Castle Happy features Autumn Allee (Patricia), Ben Brady (Stevens), Maria Caycedo
(Quinn), Rebecca Euchler (Jenny), Cindy Head (Marion), Stephen Kanaski (Arthur), Kim Long
(Bette), Leland Morine (Hearst) and Nathaniel Rothrock (Errol Flynn).
