Moleps cricket tournament 2016-Report

Molepolole Cricket Tournament
Date: 12 and 13 February
Venue: Al-Huq Primary School
Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) embarked on a round robin cricket tournament for 7 schools.
The tournament was for both boys and girls, both genders were playing at the same time on
different fields. The teams were divided into two pools Boys Group 1, Boys Group 2 then Girls
Group 1 and Girls Group 2. The main objective of the tournament was to create an environment of
fun and enjoyment. This tournament also educate the young cricketers the skill, the opportunity to
compete and experience of the game situation which is the most important aspect in cricket at grass
root level. The tournament gave the young cricketers exposure and a chance to apply and
implement the skills they have acquired during training sessions in their respective school. This
event also helped to identify and develop the game from the grass root level. During the
tournament together with coaches from the participating school and BCA officials we managed to
identify potential players who will be able to represent the region in the upcoming U/13 Boys
tournament to be held in Gaborone and other future events.
Participating schools showed a great interest and enthusiasm and by so doing that made the
tournament more exciting to viewers and even the media teams who came to watch. I was very
impressed about the performance after introduced cricket in the last 3 months, the kids displayed a
high level of skill and knowledge of the game even though some still need more polishing, key areas
to focus on especially fielding-bowling because some of the teams gave away more extras and they
dropped catches. The boys made it a tough competitive tournament because all the teams came
there to compete and give a strong challenge, the batting was impressive. At the end one team had
to walk away with the main prize. Boys showed a high standard of the game in almost all the 3
aspects of cricket.
As for girls most of the teams were good even though some were not that good since they were
beginners, it was exciting more especially the semis. At the semi-finals teams went out to battle it
out and see themselves at the finals but they were just two slots for 2 teams at the final. It was a
game of emotions as some cried a lot after their loss and not making it to the finals. The final was a
very big game since all the eyes were watching with expectations and high hopes but at the end one
team had to emerge a winner. It was a 2 days of enjoyment and fun in Molepolole. The
advertisement also played a part we had a number of spectators.
The teams complied well with the rules and regulations of the game; they played their matches in
white attire, pitched up and finished on time. The challenges that we faced was that we had few
numbers of teachers that had the knowledge of officiating who could not score and umpire and this
somehow delayed the start of some matches. . We recommended a basic umpiring and scoring
course in Molepolole just to equip them with all the necessary skills and knowledge to help them
upgrade.
We will be having or practices at Bakwena Primary School the center of excellent in preparation for
the coming regional U13 Boys tournament, in our practices we are also including the girls so that
they will not loss hope despite that they are not participation in the tournament.
