Welcome to Math II! Math II is a rigorous course that will prepare you for upper level math classes. Tests, quizzes, and
assignments will be more challenging than your previous math courses. This course will also have an investigative approach.
You are expected to have a good understanding of Math I to build upon. The skills we develop within this course will also help
us function and reason as we move on to more rigorous college preparatory courses.
Class supplies- Required:
•
TI-83 or 84 Graphing Calculator
•
1 subject spiral or composition notebook
•
Pencils
•
Colorful pens
Class supplies- Recommended:
•
Highlighter
Ruler
Teacher wish list:
•
Tissues
AAA batteries
Personal Scotch Tape
1 inch binder/folder
Graph Paper
Loose Leaf paper
Erasers
Headphones
Toolkit: This will be in our 1 subject spiral or composition notebook. This MUST stay organized, as it will be your review
guide for your final exam. Criteria for toolkits will be gone over in class. This will be collected for a TEST grade at the end of
each quarter. Points will be deducted if it is not organized correctly.
Binder/folder: Notes will be taken daily. Your binder will be used for any guided notes or worksheets given out in class. Most
of our notes will be in our toolkits, but we will still have some notes in our binder/folder. You should have plenty of loose leaf
paper in your binder (especially for homework).
Grading: The grading system for my class is a weighted one and is broken down as follows:
•
•
•
Tests
50%
Quizzes
35%
Classwork/Homework
15%
o Warm-ups will count as half of a homework grade
There will be regular quizzes and tests to assess our understanding of the material. You can expect a test or quiz weekly. An
opportunity for test corrections/retest will be offered once per quarter and stipulations for these will be gone over in class in
more detail.
Homework assignments and scheduled tests/quizzes will be posted on my school website. Please be aware that I do give “Pop
Quizzes” so please be ready for them at any time.
Attendance: You are expected to be in class everyday promptly. Be on time and prepared to work every day.
You are allowed 6 absences per semester. If you miss more than this, you will be required to make up time - hour for hour.
You will be given an opportunity to make up time with the new school wide make up time policy. It is your responsibility to get
all missed assignments and to turn in homework completed after an absence. Missed worksheets should be printed from my
website or done on your own paper. Tests and quizzes must be made up within 5 days. I am available before and after school
by appointment. Quizzes can be made up during SMART lunch, but tests cannot be due to the time limit. Finishing a test
during SMART lunch is fine, if applicable. Late homework will not be accepted without an excused absence. If you are absent
the day before a test, on a review day, you still will be responsible for taking the test. If you are absent on the DAY of the test,
you will be required to make up that test the DAY you get back. You have already learned the content. I POST
EVERYTHING ON MY WEBSITE!!!!!
The tardy policy will be strictly enforced in accordance to the Student Handbook. Be sure you are in your seat ready to work
when the bell rings. Understand that driving privileges CAN be revoked for excessive tardiness.
Behavior expectations: It is expected that you will behave in a mature manner in this class and follow the classroom rules and
rules in the student handbook. Our class rules are:
•
Follow all class procedures
•
Be on time and prepared
•
Be Respectful and Responsible
•
If I see/hear your cellphone… it’s MINE!
•
This is a WHINE FREE zone
•
WE will learn from OUR mistakes
As well there are a few rules that are common to all students:
•
No food or drink in the classroom (only water is permitted)
•
Cell phones, headphones, iPods, mp3 players, etc. are to be turned off and put away. (Non-compliance with cell
phone/iPod rule will result in phone/iPod being taken and turned in to main office). Computers will be used but
should not be out until specified.
Cheating:
I do not treat cheating lightly. You are cheating when you copy another person’s homework or other assignments or let someone
else copy you; if you have notes with you when you are taking assessments when not approved; you ask another person for an
answer to a question on a test or a quiz; you look at another person’s paper during a test. If I suspect that you are cheating I will
make a photocopy of your paper and turn your name into the office. DO YOUR OWN WORK.
**See your student handbook for consequences of not meeting behavior expectations, located on LNHS website**
Homework Passes: You will be given 3 homework passes, that will exempt a homework grade lower than 100, at the beginning
of each quarter. These may NOT be used for any homework assignments that are graded on accuracy. If these homework
passes are not used then they will turn into 5 points each that will be added onto a quiz grade. Do your homework every night!
Restroom Breaks: You are expected to use the restroom during class change times. You may use the restroom in case of an
emergency!
