25th July 2012 Wiltshire Cricket Winter Performance Programme 2012-2013 – Trial Nominations Dear Club Junior Coordinator, I am writing to you regarding the Wiltshire Cricket Performance Programme for 2012-2013 with the main purpose of this letter being to request nominations from you for boys district trials (please note that Lisa Keightley, Head of Women and Girls Cricket, will deal with the girls performance programme separately). The process to follow in order to nominate players for trials can be found in detail later in this letter, however I would also like to take this opportunity to provide an overview and re-cap as to the current structure that Wiltshire Cricket has in place for representative Cricket. Broadly, this letter will cover the following: Overview of Wiltshire Cricket Performance Structure Trialing and Selection Process for 2012-2013 Trial Nominations for 2012/2013 Timeframes and dates for Wiltshire Winter Coaching Programme 2012-2013 Overview of Wiltshire Cricket Performance Structure This time last year, clubs were informed of the changes that Wiltshire Cricket planned to make to the upcoming winter coaching programme. The main changes related to the county programme which last winter became a one to one coaching programme for 10 players per county age group squad. This county one to one programme ran for 12 weeks at Devizes Leisure Centre during which time district squads at under 10s, 11s, 13s and 15s were also receiving group squad sessions at venues across the county. At the culmination of the 12 week district and county indoor programmes, the 10 players per county age group came together as a squad together with a number of identified players from the district programme to receive a further 6 week programme of outdoor squad coaching. This change to the structure was positive as it meant the following: - Players involved in the county winter coaching programme received a combination of one to one individual coaching followed by group sessions as the season drew closer. The district winter coaching programme was strengthened by the fact that less players were involved in the county programme. It also created more incentive for district players to achieve selection for the 6 week outdoor county coaching element which took place at the end of the indoor district and county programmes. Given that the changes made to last winter’s coaching programme are only a year old and also because they were so successful, Wiltshire Cricket has no intention of changing is structure for 2012-2013. Therefore, you will find that the information that follows in the rest of this letter should be very consistent with the information that you received last year. However, for the purposes of refreshing memories please find a diagram on the next page that explains the Wiltshire Cricket Performance structure. This is important so that clubs, players and parents can become familiar with how the performance structure works and the processes that are followed. With this in mind, the process for nominating, trialing and selecting players will be as follows: Date 25th July 2012 By 17th August 2012 During w/c 20th August 2012 30th August 2012 w/c 3rd September 2012 By 20th September 2012 Detail Nomination Letter sent to Clubs with Junior Sections Clubs to have replied to this letter with their nominations for players to attend district trials. These nominations should be sent to District Head Coaches. District Head Coaches will contact all nominated players to invite them to district trials and to inform them of the date, venue and time of their district trial District Under 10 trials will take place on or as close to this date as possible (the district under 10 trials take place first as all players at this age group are being seen for the first time and so a county trial has to be arranged subsequent to the district under 10 trials) District Under 11, 13 and 15 trials take place All attendees at district trials will be sent letter via email confirming selection or non selection for winter coaching programme * Please note that county trials will take place before district trials. Invitations to county trials will be made by current county managers and coaches. Trial Nominations for 2012-2013 As I said from the outset, the main purpose of this letter is to collect nominations from your club for district trials which will be taking place during the week commencing 3rd September 2012. Attached with this letter is a nomination form and it would be much appreciated if you could complete this form and return it to your District Head Coach by Friday 17th August at the very latest. When doing so please be aware of the following: District Head Coaches will take responsibility for informing the nominated players of the details of their trial. You do not need to contact your players regarding their trials at all. You will be nominating players for the age group in which they will be for the 2013 season. Note that you do not need to nominate players from your club that are currently in county squads for the 2012 season. These players will automatically be invited for a county trial. However, you DO need to nominate players that are currently playing district cricket. Please make every effort to nominate as many players as possible who you feel have the potential to play district cricket. These are not trials for county selection and so we are looking to see as many players as possible to ensure that we fill our district squads with young cricketers who have the potential and commitment to develop their game. Please complete as much of the nomination forms as possible, this will assist the District Head Coaches in ensuring that they have the necessary information to contact the players in advance of the trials. DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS – FRIDAY 17TH AUGUST Timeframes and dates for Wiltshire Winter Coaching Programme 2012-2013 One useful piece of feedback we received following last year’s nomination and trial process was that it would be useful for clubs to know the dates and times of the district coaching sessions, should players be selected.
