In 2016, the Stanwood City Council also approved charging utility customers directly for Washington State Public Utility
Taxes and Business & Occupation taxes on water, sewer and drainage services. These taxes are passed through to the
WA State Department of Revenue. This change increases the monthly residential base rate by $2.86, and will take effect
January 1, 2017.
Stanwood utility customers pay some of the lowest water and sewer utility rates in the region. The increases are
needed to properly fund utility operations. The funding raised by the rate increases will be used to meet minimum cash
reserve targets, maintain tax-payer owned assets, meet minimum staffing requirements and limit borrowing.
