CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR OPEN EVENTING TEAM 2013
AT THE PONY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
After all the excitement of the games teams wins over the weekend, the Open Event
team of Posy and Lizzy Spencer and Harriet Dickin headed off to the PC Champs on
Monday 19th August.
Posy, Lizzy and Harriet
A very challenging XC track was already causing all sorts of trouble by the time the girls
went off to do their dressage, and the show jumping was no better!
All three did very respectable tests so headed off to the SJ quite happy. Poles were going
in all directions with even horses who are usually guaranteed a clear having problems.
Posy was first in with Muffin who is not an easy ride in this phase and did a good job to
get her round with three down. Harriet and Dargle Looks then jumped a copy book clear,
and Lizzy had a couple down on Megallion.
We headed off to the XC with some trepidation, as there were very few clears, and
plenty of people walking back from a variety of fences!
Posy went first and flew round for an incredible clear, Muffin wondering what all the fuss
was about! Harriet had an annoying run out, but made the rest look easy, and Lizzy did
a good job with a couple of stops. The most important thing was that we had three
counting scores, as plenty of teams did not!
We ended the day with Posy eighth in her section, Harriet ninth in hers, and the team an
amazing tenth! Against the best PC eventers in the country this was a very
commendable result, so well done Team WHPC! Never easy with only a team of three at
the best of times, as plenty of pressure on to make sure you finish, so great to come
back with some rosettes!
Great to see one of last years Open Team, Edie Campbell, there who came to support
the team. Well done everybody!

CONGRATULATIONS!
The WHPC Eventers headed off to Catton Park on Sunday for Area Horse trials. We sent
three teams and several individuals, accompanied by team trainers Colina Pickles and
Pippa Williams.
The Open team of Emily Hoare, Harriet Dickin and Posy and Lizzy Spencer were first on
with a very early start, and had a great day, four really good dressage tests and just a
couple of poles in the show jumping put them into a strong position before XC. All four
then had fantastic clears, with the commentator commenting on the ‘exemplary riding’ of
the Warwickshire team.
Our Open Eventing team with the 'loot' after finishing second at area along with
Assistant DC Debbie Okines.
The team ended up second to a very experienced Ludlow team, and a qualification to the
Championships. Harriet was third in her section, in only her second competition on her
horse, and Lizzy had a really super double clear to finish fifth in hers. We also had
Callum Kennedy riding as an Open Individual who did really well with a double clear,
which was his horses’ first time competing at that level. Sadly we could not field an
Intermediate team this year, but Charlotte Northwood and Alexandra Kenndy flew the
Warwickshire flag, both with good XC clears, and although unplaced rode with much to
be proud of.
Emily Hoare and Pimms, Harriet Dickin and Dargle Looks, Posy Spencer and Muffin and
Lizzy Spencer and Megallion, with team trainer Colina Pickles.
The Novice team of Mary Meadows, Emma Thomas, Henry Bradshaw and Flo Denham
finished fifth in a huge class, finishing fifth despite a few SJ hiccups. A really excellent
effort. Emma also finished second in her section with an excellent double clear, but sadly
missed out on a qualification by 0.5 and Flo Denham came 5th individually.
The other team was Stephanie Robinson, Annabel Duncan, Harry Rugman and Clare
Pierson, who all rode well and completed although we’re unplaced. Amy Newcombe and
Holly Booth rode as individuals and although also unplaced did really well with some
great dressage scores and good riding.
Holly Booth and Amy Newcombe
All but one of the novices were competing at area for the first time, so a particular well
done to them all, it was a good effort from everyone, and they all managed to stay
cheerful despite some very slow scoring, and a very late leave!!
Many thanks to Colina and Pippa for all their support, and also to Debbie Okines who was
there to the bitter end waiting for the final scores!
