Mentee application form Student:Trainee mentoring scheme Some important information… (please read this before signing up!!) Thank you for your interest in taking part in the Law Society’s brand-new pilot Student:Trainee mentoring programme! This is a career mentoring scheme which focuses on trainees assisting in the development of law students’ employability skills and offering support during the traineeship recruitment process. We believe that trainee solicitors, having recently had direct experience of this process are in a great position to act as a peer mentor; to be able to empathise with students and offer advice and guidance during this often-stressful time. As a pilot project, we are running this scheme on a trial basis with a limited pool of participants and within a controlled geographical area. We will be aiming to match a maximum of 16 mentor and mentee pairs, specifically within the Edinburgh area. We are currently only welcoming applications from students based in the Edinburgh area. We are also currently only welcoming mentee applications from final year LLB students (final year accelerated students are eligible to apply) and Diploma students. You must be a student associate of the Law Society to apply. Register for free here. Following the pilot scheme, we will undertake a review of its implementation and aim to roll out across Scotland if it has been deemed successful and sustainable. Trainees and students from across Scotland and at all stages will be welcome to apply at this point, although we will continue to prioritise those in their final year of the LLB or Diploma year. Each mentoring relationship undertaken during the pilot programme is expected to last for a period of maximum 12 months. Some relationships may run for a shorter course, which will be dictated by when those participating feel their goals have been met. Participants signing up should ensure they are available to commit to a mentoring relationship for a period of up to 12 months. It is for the mentor and mentee pairs to decide how often they feel they would like to meet and communicate, but as a guide we would recommend that this would be on a monthly basis as a minimum. We’d prefer you to meet up in person, as past feedback has shown that individuals find face to face meetings more helpful and the relationship is more sustainable long term. To apply… Please complete all of the information in this document and return to [email protected] You are encouraged to be as detailed as you can, as your answers will determine who you are matched with as a mentor and we want to ensure our relationships are as effective as possible. Please note that this is an application form to participate in the pilot scheme and as such, does not guarantee you will be selected to participate. Success of applicants will be determined by strength of applications, the commitment to the scheme conveyed and the suitability of mentor matches. 1.
